Ditto to Linux Mint LTS. Don't forget to install the ssh-server and x11vnc for remote management.:)
I replaced WinXP on my Dad's computer with LM and forgot to install the ssh server since it isn't installed by default; I was accustomed to RH distros and assumed ssh-server was installed by default.
Install Linux Mint 13 LTS. For remote administration, install SSH server & x11vnc, and forward SSH port to the LM13 machine. Done!
I did this for my Dad and have had no complaints; he has Firefox, Chromium, LibreOffice and his DropBox contents. I log in on occasion and perform an "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" to update his box.

RIM could run Android in a VM and the BB infrastructure in another, signed VM, thus partitioning the unsecured from the secured and maintain compatibility.
I believe RIM could do it, but it will require some out-of-the-box thinking and courage on their part. I don't think they have many hands left at this point.
Because it's not like the market is saturated with Android phones or anything;)
Good point, but I believe a BB device, using an Android OS which incorporates RIM's back-end messaging and security features, would differentiate it's devices in the market.
This just goes to show you that boneheads are in charge at RIM.
RIM, you want to fix business, just bite the pillow and adopt Android for your handsets. Problem solved.
...I hung onto OS/2 for waaay longer than i should hoping and praying IBM would get their head out of their ass and market it right, but they didn't know what to do with it and totally killed it, same thing here.
Me too, I tapped out when Windows 2000 was released.
I'd like to second this recommendation. The main omission from this device is the lack of Amazon Prime streaming support. Also, there is a problem with switching audio in a mp4/m4v file sends video racing ahead, however, strangely enough, mkv's work fine.
No sub-$250 device I'm aware of does it all perfectly, but overall, I recommend the WDTV Live it and would buy again.
I would settle for him to just fix the Window's DropBox client so that when I upgrade it, it installs in either one centralized directory or updates to client installed in my profile instead of another user's profile.
Just don't go to Brazil for the World Cup in June.

Jump Desktop is very good and SSH tunneling is built-in.
What a dirtbag. All the more reason to buy a Ford.

I've been doing this for a long while now using Locale on my Android phone.
My T61 literally died the week after my warranty expired. I should see if there is a class-action lawsuit concerning this widespread issue.
His name sake virus scanner murders my PCs performance daily.
Hey HTC, make all of your Android phones AOSP "Nexus" phones and profit!
You need the RCA ANT751R Outdoor Antenna and perhaps a RCA TVPRAMP1R Outdoor Antenna Preamplifier.
Don't worry, he is in the first stage right now.
You can't add security on top of an unsecure OS.

Being an android maker in a sea of android makers is not a place you want to be.
That may be true, but at this point, no one is picking up what RIM is putting down.
Most times it's better to swim with the school than to strike out on your own.

Why not pre-install LibreOffice and provide a link to download Microsoft Office just in case someone feels they still have to have it?
In ICS you can flick away running apps from the task list.
They can block whatever so long as they don't block /. .
What's wrong with GCC?
Duh!

It would be like Babylon 5 or S:AAB. Hurrah!
