After a few hours it will be much easier reading the kindle than it is the iPad.

The American government will step in to prevent CEOs from having to deal with the consequences of their actions. Remember the uproar in the 80s over Japan on the issue of trade? Guess what, throughout the 50s,60s, and 70s lots of work was being sent to Japan, but it was the American companies sending the work over there and there was very little uproar on the political stage.

Then starting in the mid-to-late 70s the Japanese started selling things in the US directly under their own brands and thus cutting the American CEOs out of the loop. It was only then that the politicians started really crying "they took our jobs!" and the supposedly "free-trade" Reagan(one of our worst presidents ever, I have no idea why people lionize the B-actor) made Japan make some major trade concessions and forced them to strengthen their currency.

So far China hasn't really made a big push in the west with their own brands, but its really only a matter of time. Then and only then, when the rich, who own the politicians lock stock and barrel, suffer will the politicians even attempt to do anything about Chinese trade practices.

Chinese workers don't give a shit about the stuff they are making, they are there only to allow the government come in to grab as much technology as they can.

As per the shoes in my example, the Chinese pair was $60, the American pair $30, the American pair lasted much longer. As per the American companies, I've bought stuff from the EXACT same companies at similar prices, some made in China, some made elsewhere. Guess what? the quality of the stuff made elsewhere is markedly better than the shit made in China. Whether the Chinese workers are intentionally doing a shitty job or intentionally poisoning the stuff they export is up for debate, but what isn't is their absolute shit quality. For example Apple's hardware quality has fallen significantly after moving more and more manufacturing to China. I doubt this is a coincidence.

It's not easy, but if you are vigilant you can find really good deals on stuff not made in China(which is pretty much all shit quality anyway). I've noticed that clothes made in Vietnam have much better quality than those made in China, ditto for electronics and Japan. I have a camera that is made in Japan and has lasted a long time despite being repeatedly abused. It was certainly worth the extra bit of money I paid over the Chinese made piece of shit I bought before. After I have taken the train trip or stayed at the hotel there is little reason for me to store the documents for later(though the caveat is the German train conductors tend to punch holes in the paper....)

This is perfect for documents like that. In fact, I print so rarely that I don't even own a printer, fortunately my work lets me get away with limited printing, but I would consider one of these things as unlike inkjet printers, the ink will not dry out. Not to mention the sheer amount of shit they REQUIRE you to be an admin for, the total lack of opacity in their processes etc. If Microsoft disappeared tomorrow, there still would be security exploits, but significantly less than there are now.

Not to mention the numbers speak for themselves, despite having over 90% of the pc market share, Microsoft has less than half that and that share is continuing to decline. Why is that? Because cracking Windows is pretty trivial, and if a company has important data they want to protect, they sure as hell aren't going to go Windows.
