If you can bother enough to go through a simple tutorial for 15 minutes, you will amaze yourself with what you can do very easily in Blender. It truly is a magnificent tool, and the interface is reasonably internally consistent once you get used to it.
I think you're reading way, way, too much into his statement.
I read it simply that he's saying the government should do more for the people.
I do not read that as "government knows best" or "government should spy on you more".
I do disagree with this push, however. Personally, I suspect he has bought in, to an extent, to the previous administration's paranoia. And there are certain things in a big goverment that have consistency beyond administrations.
Have you lost your mind? Free Software is not Products. They wouldn't even be just U.S. products anyway. And how is this different than if CNN.com started doing the same thing, avoiding shipping their news "product" to Syria. Get a grip!
I hope I'm not naive to think that even if Net Neutrality goes by the wayside, that it probably wouldn't matter, anyway. Users will flock to ISP's that don't play the game, and thus render any shenannigans pointless.
Of course, this would not be helped by the essentially monopoly or duopoly status of most ISP's these days. So I'll take net neutrality if I can get it!
While I approve of piracy, don't you think it's naive to think that the torrented/pirated version is less likely to install malware (of any sort) than the paid for version?
What the fuck ever, dude. Obama inherited this stupidity, and it's going to take a long time to clean up the mess.
Or did you think Obama had a magic wand? Sorry to disappoint, but if I could undo the Bush years with a magic want I certainly would and I'm sure Obama would, too.
I've never given Google or Yahoo a free pass on this issue, and I don't plan on buying AAPL stock any more, either.
I'm not willing to make money from asshole behavior, at least knowingly.
I believe it is against the *long term* interests of these companies to knuckle under to this sort of thing. Simply don't operate in China. Or do Sergei and Steve not have enough billions? Bah.
For points #1 and #3, although I acknowledge that you make some good points, I think you only have to look at the difference cell phone technology is making for people in the third world to see the benefits OLPC could have. Sure, many will sell them on, but many won't. All kids would never benefit completely, anyway.
As for point #2--Touché.
At this point, it would probably be best to check out how it has actually worked out so far, since it's been a while and there are probably some results to be found. My Google skills don't seem to be able to find any, though.
I'm sure that as soon as we an define 'consiousness', we'll have the answer to that.
I think it's imperative that net neutrality apply to the cell carriers, too.
And we're quite a long way from that.
And how is this worth creating antibiotic resistent bacteria?
If you're dead due to some crazy bacteriological infection, you cannot enjoy cheap beef.
Part of the problem is the use of words like "denialists".
Listen to yourself.
They feel like they're being attacked as irrationally as their own attacks in the first place.
It's maddening. I have good friends who are "denialists", and they point to this word as evidence of scientists politicization etc.
There really is no reasoning with these people. They understand *nothing* about science and they are not listening.
Probably best to stop trying so hard.
Turn off swap. I never run Windows with swap enabled these days for just this reason.
In these days of a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM, for almost all applications it just doesn't matter. I even do 3d modelling in Blender without swap.
Obviously not an option if you're cutting it close in RAM usage, though.

Did they really fucking do that?
Seriously?

I went to the site but all the documents "have been withdrawn or do not exist".
:-{
We just need to file a lawsuit in Fascistville, Texas to have the whole internet taken down for obscenity.
Trust me, I'm a Texan--we've got plenty of towns that would do.
I misread that, too. It was not the ACLU that backed down, but UCLA.
So they are still spineless and undedicated to the ideas that they should be championing in our society.
Yes, it would be a herculean task for them to support people setting up their own master servers.
You're right--MS would probably fuck it up.
YOU'RE a sock puppet!
What are they using? pc's? Linux?
I'm curious...

Another chance for them to redeem themselves and do some not evil shit.
Srsly when you see "don't be evil" think "Honest Google's Search Emporium".
What, you think we're not doing it to them? Don't be naive. They just aren't honest enough to admit it.
But please do tone down the rhetoric. Nobody is being killed. Even knock on effects can't be called a "war".
We're all just chillin' here hk0ring each other's shti.
we geeks haven't made it easier to use.

About the same, if you ask me.

pwned. nice. damn!
You need to move away from England!
