    Do you really think that will happen?

    We've had file sharing in a big way for over a decade now and the music industry still thrives.  Or do you think it only thrives because of guilt induced iTunes customers?  Would that be a sustainable business model, anyway?

    It's not about the free music or movies, it's about the fact that the only way to stop it will also result in them shackling our minds.

    And I think you understate their problems rather tremendously.  They can (and have) made it more difficult, but only slightly.  There's just too damn much data, and even Joe Public won't stand for them literally filtering the whole internet.

    It does take time, but after only a decade even ordinary people are starting to comprehend the undesireability of DRM.

    While I agree that the label "denailist" is supremely unconstructive, it's a bit silly to trust science to build the airplane you're riding in at 30k feet but not listen to scientists when they tell you why the earth is warming and that it might be very unhealthy for us.

    That's not how America works, it's how the world works.

    This is the sort of thing that will cause the US to start taking space seriously again.

    I predict the space race will heat up real nice again real soon, but with multiple participants, this time.

    It should be very exciting.  Just because we're sitting on our laurels, doesn't mean the other guys are.

    (But we do have a very nice private industry starting).

    It sounds like you felt like he was right to do what he did.  If so, you should not have convicted.

    That is the point of a jury of ones peers--to overrule the law or the judge's instructions.

    Like my game (shameless plug).  Srsly though it uses the hardware in some unusual (to date) ways that I haven't seen in any major label game.  Mostly I'm talking about polysoup collision (instead of convex-only BSP) which lets me let my imagination run wild in making levels.

    Really I've only just scratched the surface.  But the big guys don't take crazy chances because they are "sane" and "rational", because they can afford to be.

    Because it's hard to get upset about something you don't understand the significance of.

    It's bad enough these days I'm seeing good young techs who believe the pablum the major media dish out through no fault of their own.  They're all in favor of locking down the internet any way the corps please.

    I'm working on de-brainwashing (re-brainwashing?) them, of course, but that takes time.

    Just because they haven't thought of anything, doesn't mean we won't.

    In fact, I'd put money on it.  The internet is American, after all :-)  When we're as wired as Japan and Finland, we'll be coming up with all kinds of crazy new uses.

    Provided we don't let the "creative" industry destroy our part of the net, that is.
