Yes, the pirates will suck ALL the money out of ALL movies and ALL art and there will be NO money to be made, and thus we will have only crap.
Do you really think that will happen?
We've had file sharing in a big way for over a decade now and the music industry still thrives. Or do you think it only thrives because of guilt induced iTunes customers? Would that be a sustainable business model, anyway?
It's not about the free music or movies, it's about the fact that the only way to stop it will also result in them shackling our minds.
And I think you understate their problems rather tremendously. They can (and have) made it more difficult, but only slightly. There's just too damn much data, and even Joe Public won't stand for them literally filtering the whole internet.
Personally, I kinda thought that the blogger came away looking like an immature douchebag, compared to Jobs who at least has a clear vision of the world (rightly or wrongly).
While I agree that the label "denailist" is supremely unconstructive, it's a bit silly to trust science to build the airplane you're riding in at 30k feet but not listen to scientists when they tell you why the earth is warming and that it might be very unhealthy for us.
Like my game (shameless plug). Srsly though it uses the hardware in some unusual (to date) ways that I haven't seen in any major label game. Mostly I'm talking about polysoup collision (instead of convex-only BSP) which lets me let my imagination run wild in making levels.
Really I've only just scratched the surface. But the big guys don't take crazy chances because they are "sane" and "rational", because they can afford to be.
Because it's hard to get upset about something you don't understand the significance of.
It's bad enough these days I'm seeing good young techs who believe the pablum the major media dish out through no fault of their own. They're all in favor of locking down the internet any way the corps please.
I'm working on de-brainwashing (re-brainwashing?) them, of course, but that takes time.
Just because they haven't thought of anything, doesn't mean we won't.
In fact, I'd put money on it. The internet is American, after all:-) When we're as wired as Japan and Finland, we'll be coming up with all kinds of crazy new uses.
Provided we don't let the "creative" industry destroy our part of the net, that is.

Nonsense.

Or, you could program your phone to wipe itself every day--unless you put in the correct code.
That would be good.
Yeah, but I bet you like your integrated NIC, sound, and math coprocessor, for that matter.
:-)
If there are good technical reasons for it, then it's good. And they're are.
Personally, I kinda thought that the blogger came away looking like an immature douchebag, compared to Jobs who at least has a clear vision of the world (rightly or wrongly).
I hope so, Intel is far too dominant right now.
Don't worry, we know. But constant education of the masses is required.
It does take time, but after only a decade even ordinary people are starting to comprehend the undesireability of DRM.
Check the Terms of Service.
ie. I think you'd be illuminated.
Yeah...not like your wedding.
ha!
No, I'm not. I'm saying it's silly not to listen to them.
Please pirate my game.

mod parent up
I've found in my life that you pretty much always have to make your own opportunities, one way or another.
Just sayin'. I think a person like you should always do what's most interesting to him/her.
Well, when I speak this into my Android phone, it prints it exactly correctly.
:-p
What is your point, exactly?
That's not how America works, it's how the world works.
There's less of that in America than most other countries, though.
It's a crappy system, but also be best available option. We can work to make it better, though.
This is the sort of thing that will cause the US to start taking space seriously again.
I predict the space race will heat up real nice again real soon, but with multiple participants, this time.
It should be very exciting. Just because we're sitting on our laurels, doesn't mean the other guys are.
(But we do have a very nice private industry starting).
It sounds like you felt like he was right to do what he did. If so, you should not have convicted.
That is the point of a jury of ones peers--to overrule the law or the judge's instructions.
Even a lot of techs these days have been brainwashed by the major media into believing there are only zero sum games in software development and art.
You cannot "de-rootkit" any computer, Linux or Windows. New MBR or not, forget it, it can never be trusted again.

It just means that the Light Side of the Force triumphed briefly within their company long enough for them to actually make the claim.
But it's okay, the Dark Side is ascendent once again.
lol omg me too.
very nice, i'm still rofl.
