These are the same people that think their Kindle is a great product with a great sales strategy.

Who really cares about print on demand books anyway?  The future is clearly electronic--just not on the Kindle :-)

You know, I daresay you are right, but also that the licensors probably haven't expressed any issue with licensing for Vista, but that Creative's lawyers are running the show.

Never, never let lawyers run the show.  They don't know anything about the real world.

Creative doing something dumb is a shock?  They haven't done anything intelligent in nearly decade.

Used to be I would buy ONLY Creative sound hardware.  Now I've given up after even a USB sound box of theirs didn't work, but the $15 Taiwanese ugly grey box worked fabulously with no effort, and on Linux, too.

Now they not only refuse to release decent drivers, but actively annoy those who do.  What, exactly, is the value proposition here for me as a customer?

Don't forget, if you release source code under the GPL, you are NOT giving up your copyright.

The GPL is merely a license you are offering for your code.

Someone else can come along and pay you money, with your consent, to license under a different license, such as a closed source one.

What nonsense.  You don't think the decisions are made by individuals?  And also, you are talking about "monopolies".  Monopolies don't charge the maximum you are willing to pay--they charge the maximum they can possibly get, above and beyond what you are "willing" to pay.

That's why they are monopolies.  As opposed to competitive enterprises.

    Don't be such a tool.

If we used nuclear power, solar, and a bunch of other things to create electricity, we could use electric machines instead of internal combustion powered machines to automate farming, for example.  You seem to be focused on the problem, not the solution.

In any case I take issue with the 10calories per calorie consumed argument.  That, sir, is what we can a statistic, and we all know about those.  If you look at the whole picture, you would realize that the reason, for example, that we spent a billion dollars on an oil platform, is because we get way, way more than a billion dollars of value from what it drills up.  That is probably one part of the equation that your statistic ignores.

Here's one thing: why must your system be mandatory?  If you made it an opt-in system showing the current P2P "top 40", you'd have plenty of voluntary participants who would opt in for fun, just like with game ranking systems, pc benchmarking, etc. etc.  Why on earth should it be forced on the people?
