Since D&D players are above-average intelligence and creative thinkers, they probably make less obedient soldiers and might question orders and the purpose of military action. Also, they realize that the world doesn't have to be the way it is.
Now that the UK is going to spend tax payer's money to prevent problems caused by poor design by private companies, are they going to put extra tax on the purchase of vulnerable products and licenses (mostly Windows)?
I wouldn't want my tax money being spend on plugging the holes in software I don't use.
The big difference is that MS flight sim uses preset tables of parameters for each aircraft. This means that the situations simulated are limited to the extremes of these tables.
X-Plane on the other hand calculates the effect of airflow on the shape of the plane on-the-fly, allowing accurate simulation of _any_ situation of _any_ shape in _any_ sort of movement-through-air.
That's how X-Plane is able to simulate the atmosphere of Mars, and one creative mad genius even modeled a Steinway Grand Piano!
Pity that the links in the article have succumbed, I haven't been able to look at them.
Hmm, interesting discussion, thank you for your input. I agree with JavaLord that judging cases like this should be based on personal responsibility and not on music someone listened to or what games he played.
Since when is FOX a valid source of news? And used as such by Slashdot?
Fox shows only the view of this confused attorney and does not mention that linking video games to violence is highly debated and still inconclusive. Is Fox not making more propaganda in the family-value-and-fear style we have come to know them for?
Hmm, my previous post appears to have attracted one of the harmful mod-points you so gallantly were trying to lead away from the serious posts. I had no idea my innocent observations had trolling-qualities hiding in them. I must be underestimating the power of my words.
Above is a dupe comment, which strangely enough got modded +5 funny the first time around and is now considered a troll. Such a lovely perfect analysis tool, this mod-system.
I'm a Mac user, and the only times I need a two-button mouse is when playing Diablo or Homeworld. For daily desktop activities (writing, Java programming, image editing, video editing,...) the shiny mouse-is-one-big-button is perfect.
This is the first time I have heard someone declare a myth saying that there are no viruses for Linux - typical that this declaration comes from MS.
Who is accountable for the security of the Linux kernel? There, they're using the word 'accountable' almost immediately. It is obvious that they live in a world of lawyers in stead of a world of software.
The world of FUD is made up of people telling myths and 'holding accountable', i.e. blaming for problems, while Linux-users just want to get on with business.
I'm glad a lot more children will live to a higher age. However, should this not be backed-up by a contraception-campaign as well? Population pressure is a big cause for the spreading of disease and ecological disturbance.
I'm lucky that I live close to work - it'd be good if more people would get a chance to do so. (Like by not having to find a new job in another city every couple of years.)
I appreciate you doing your part in reducing byproduct, and agree that changes will not be as acute as you say.
But you sound rather fatalistic - some change is certainly possible. The world has gone from coal and steam to oil within a couple of decades. Gas in every house was introduced into all homes here in Holland within 15 years.
So cars can be powered by something else. And they could be a lot smaller than some people use. The point is that we are producing more CO2 now than would be necessary if we would put our minds to it. That is, putting our minds to long-term welfare for the world's population in stead of short-term financial gain.
From a Darwinistic point of view we would be best of as a species if we don't act like a mould in a Petri-dish, suffocating in its own waste.
I do ride a bike every day and don't have a driver's licence:-)
I would like to add, that some military forces, like the US Navy, have better appreciation of D&D players:
" Most of D&D's early players were ex-military, notably ex-navy. The military connection no doubt helped vector and spread the game, transmitting the game from ex-military to current military and then to all the locales from which the services drew these recruits. I believe at one point every submarine in the navy had a D&D group. "
Since D&D players are above-average intelligence and creative thinkers, they probably make less obedient soldiers and might question orders and the purpose of military action. Also, they realize that the world doesn't have to be the way it is.
Yeah, why send an _advertisement_ in the direction of the _lowest possible number of customers_?

So Longhorn comes with IE7.
Remember people, it's not a bug, it's a feature.
Since I never intended to offend anyone, I feel vindicated :-)
Or do you mean that you modded the fanboy-list as Flamebait?

Looking at that 'MPAA NOTICE', I see lies, unfounded claims, threats and in general, bullying. Is that legal?
I thought it was about Science Fiction & Fantasy. Disappointment as it turns out to be about a PC...
Well, he's a Mac user, so it's perfectly normal for him to attach a computer to the Internet without patches and protection.
The point is, a fresh Windows PC, as they bought, is unfit to be used on the Internet. A fresh Mac _is_ fit for use on the internet.
Eh, because the other asshole like me was typing at the same time as me?
That's the third Bill of Borg in a row, the site is being assimilated!

OK, here's a short breakdown:
This is the first time I have heard someone declare a myth saying that there are no viruses for Linux - typical that this declaration comes from MS.

Fud! Fud! FUD! Fudfudfudfud! FUUUUUUD!
I guess they are becoming ever more skillful at squeezing money out of contracts.
ANY combination of letters between the underscores appears to take me to a 1x1 pixel gif picture.e rbook

Yes, I do have a tendency to think about people in eulogies and obituaries.
