That actually makes sense, although traffic density definately effects the speed. Density would allow me to understand when most people are leaving/going to work. High density probably increases the probability for accidents. Accurate real-time density statistics will help me plan the best time to leave for an easy commute. Unfortunately, I'd consider myself a professional commuter since I drive over 10 hours a week. This number could easily skyrocket to about 15-20 hours if I left at the worst times everyday. I really hope this traffic/cell phone tracking technology comes to Connecticut.
I wonder if having two or more cell phones in the same car will effect the data. Many people commute together and chances are good they both have cell phones.. Also, in heavy traffic areas the cars all go pretty much the same speed. I'm curious how sensitive the tracking is. My guess is that it will have to be acrurate to 5-10 ft. OR they could just calculate a statistic and assume every 1.01 cell phones = one car.. The 1.01 is just a number I made up.
Most of my shows are 1x a week.. I watch maybe 4 per week. 16*2=$32ish.. If I don't love them enough to get the DVD, it might be worth it to just get them via itunes.. I'm guessing the shows are in permenent file format and not streams.
It's kind of internesting to think about the current costs per show with the current cable price. Maybe iTunes is cheaper than we think.
Say we don't pay for cable anymore..That would save like $50/month. Then I think to myself, "@ $2 per show, do I watch 25 shows per month??" Probobably not. iTunes Cable!
Realistically, if you only watch 10 shows a month, you're already paying almost $5 per episode.. Free is still better!
Thanks for that fact, I wasn't aware of that. I wonder what % of tech companies Slashdot has infiltrated? I think Slashdot still has plenty of tech depts to crash into. I presonally talk to a few techs at bigger companies and they don't even have the internet at their house, not to mention know the url of Slashdot. I don't know how that works.
I can't believe this got the comment of Troll! I think questioning our excitement for being in outer space when we're already in outer space is valid. The overly righteous subculture on Slashdot is getting stronger.
Sorry to point out the obvious.. But I just want to take a moment to thank this community and Google for being so amazing. Here we are talking about an issue and the person in question is right here talking with us. AWESOME! Microsoft to Google - Responsiveness to change is the big picture. Open source and close source respond to change on different frequencies.
Microsoft, I think, realizes it's not about the difference between closed source and open source software. They are more about the spreading of ideas and experiences than the spreading of code. With Linux, we have yet to get beyond the code (Although it's finally starting to happen). With Microsoft, we're already progressing art, entertainment, business, communication and beyond.
A company must balance itself between closed doors and open doors. When I think about it, even a human doesn't want to live in a completely open environment. There's no privacy. No chance to be truly creative. Microsoft is natural.
Computing environments are about the sharing of information, art and ideas in the best way they can. I workout the idea of social networks over and over again and I know one things certain. They need to be decentralized.
The end result of my social network over and over again is something like Microsoft which is Giving Freedom in so many ways to open AND Private sharing of ideas, information and art.
Microsoft is creating a world that breaks down geographic limitations. So many people, including myself, seem to be attracted to Linux. Shouting open source is only one small piece of the puzzle. What is the point of reinventing a simular wheel? Why not strive to be truly inovative? Microsoft, on many fronts, gets people to break away from the wheel and become truly innovative and creative. Even programmers are forced to be innovative because of microsoft. Because of Closed Source, they gain a fresh foundation to create something completely new, in addition to working with life, not code. They are forced to work outside the box because the original code is not available.
I guess what I'm saying is that when I look at the big picture, Microsoft is creating a world. Google/Orkut is creating a world. Friendster/Myspace is creating a world. We should all have infinite possibilities to come and go from these simular realms which allow us to exchange ideas, information and art.
Microsoft is doing a pretty good job. I'm sure they see this big picture.
So if Google wants, they can add the moon or the rest of the universe. I wonder what Google would charge to put a building on Mars on universe.google.com
I deleted iTunes and got on the MLipod/Winamp boat early before I really used iTunes. MLipod and iTunes didn't seem to play to nicely because each seemed to want to control the play count and other rating data. In your opinion, do you think I should go back to using iTunes since it is now embracing podcasting and integrates well with the Griffen iTalk?
Does anyone know how the new iTunes App how it will interact with the files the iTalk adapter for the iPod creates? So far, I've found the clarity of the iTalk is perfect for Podcasting; however, I have yet to find an app that makes getting the recordings off the ipod as simple as syncing the ipod.
You think I care about my karma rating?? Cause I don't. I enjoy slashdot and I was just interested in providing interesting details like the other users on Slashdot provide me.
As far as accusing me of copyright infringement, you have no grounds. Mythology and psychology are particularly favorite topics for me and I happen to know very certainly that Joseph Campbell and George Lucus had a very good relationship. George Lucas states (and you can find it for yourself all over the web) that if it wasn't for the book he wrote, he probably wouldn't have finished his movie. George Lucas is actually on the board of the Joseph Campbell Foundation. A picture of Luke Skywalker is actually on the cover of recent editions of "The Hero with 1000 Faces"
I'm glad you realize that neither the theme of SW, Matrix or Campbell's book are owned (as if any of us actually own anything) by any of the individuals are nearly-universal ideas. The creators of these works are like painters painting the same picture. What's more important is that together they have helped us understand the journey in our own lives.
So on that note, why don't you get off your high horse and stop being so righteous, because it's a nearly-universal idea that your convictions are temporary delusions anyway:)
Since we were talking about The Formula for a Successful Sitcom, I thought that my comment about the details of the successful "formula" for Star Wars and Matrix was simply an addition to the "Formula" Theme.
I think your comment is overly critical and sensitive and neither a "Dead Horse" or "Insipidly Swallowing Inevitable Pretension".
George Lucas and The Wachowski brothers followed a formula to write Star Wars and The Matrix. They read the book "Hero with 1000 faces" by Joseph Campbell and mapped out the hero's journey that is simular across all cultures and individual experiences.
In the writing of anthropologist Joseph Campbell, Lucas had learned about the myths that pervade many disparate cultures, and it is this mythology that gives Lucas's space age epic its timeless resonance. Both of the sequels and the one prequel continued in the same vein and with equally successful. Read On
Can something be setup so that contributions to Open Source initiatives are Tax deductible? Open source benefits society. These organization should be able to secure loot.
I'd like more info on this if it's already in effect. Is a contribution to the Mozilla Foundation tax deductible?
It's the "Me Too" companies that make a capitalist society wonderful for everyman. "Me Too" Companies are the ones that keep the original company on their toes. "Me Too" companies potentially offer the same good or service at a better "Me Too" Price.
Dell sells computers that most of us can make better and cheaper. Don't you want your loved ones to get the best price? Don't you want your neighbor to be able to sell computers from his house without submitting to a factory? Don't you think when someone searches for the word "Dell Computer" that he should have a chance to stand up and say.. "I am EVERYMAN! and even though I don't have a billion dollars to advertise, I am good too!"
In my opinion, a hero is someone who follows their bliss. This is the ultimate life experience described over and over again through time. If only more people did it.

How will this effect our websites? Do we have to make sure the company that provides the SSL uses SSL3.0?

IF yes.. Sell the Stock
IF not, buy the stock.
