I hope they can advance enough to make some real competition for Microsoft Active Directory. I know a huge reason Windows shops never consider an alternative is because the AD GPO allows for some very granular management of AD resources.
With "grid-everything" becoming the latest buzz, hardware manufacturers must be salivating every time a new distributed processing program is released.
.....is said to feature a "fricken laserbeam". When asked to comment on the new feature, Paul Griffin (CEO of Griffin Technologies) said, "Every 'former vaporware of the year' ( he said using finger quotes) device deserves a warm meal." He then raised his ring laden pinky to his lower lip and let out a dasterdly chuckle.
"The plane's two pilots reported that the Boeing 737 had been five miles from the airport when they saw a laser beam inside the cockpit, said officials familiar with government reports of the Sept. 22 incident."
Next thing you know, they're smearing vaporub on each other and are struggling to find words to describe how awesome their faces feel right now.
I love it. Not only did "Michele" of Mtn High paint him/herself as a "manage by the seat of your pants" moron, he/she went even further to blame things that would have been addressed and averted had a competent and experienced developement/implementation team deployed the package.
The current crop of Standalone Tivo's blow the DirecTiVo away performance wise. The features of the DirecTiVo's can't be beat, but those that are used to the standard Series2 TiVo (or even the Series1) are growing tired of the dismal menu performance of the DirecTivo. All of this can be solved quite easily.......in software. Update those TiVo's DirecTV!
SCO claims an attack from IBM, using these weapons, is imminent. SCO has 2 carrier battle groups in the area and 250,000 troops on call to go in and find the WMD, pending UN approval. More news to come.....
We're too bogged down with other more pressing projects at the moment. This was just a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" practice, merely a suggestion to see if he would consider it after the other fires were put out.
.........that we (hypothetically) could lock down IE using policies so that IE could *only* browse intranet sites. Then install Firefox as the "Internet Browser". He said it would be too much administration for our PC support group.
I came back with, "More administration than cleaning and recleaning spyware and adware from users' machines on a daily basis? Symantec and Adaware are supposed to come out with a corporate solution in Q2-05 at the cost of roughly $20-30 a seat. This would cost us nothing but the time we spend orchestrating a rollout."
I could see the gears turning, which was encouraging.:)
Couple what you said with an "Exchange-like" mail/collaboration solution and you could completely emulate an AD environment.
It's a method of management. I was speculating as to whether Redhat would explore development of a similar mechanism.
....it must be good!

That would be awesome, but incredibly messy.
I love that commercial. I forget who made that commercial, but it encompasses everything we hate about jackass tech marketers/sales reps.

You can if you have an internal Software Update Server.

Next they'll have sensor strapped to the back of every butterfly on earth, increasing hurricane predictability 10 fold.
Same thing as "Here's a picture of me when I was younger". Oh really? As opposed to the pictures you have of your future self? :D
The president should get Graham Russel and Clive Davis dispatched to ISS ASAP!
