Be prepared to become a more "casual" player, able to leave something at short notice. Or if you really like raiding or fragging or whatever, have a raiding/reading evening where you both understand you'll be doing your own thing. Because one of the best ways of gathering husband brownie-points is paying attention to one's wife.
In today's society, the great thinkers become artists or investment bankers, and the politicians (with a few exceptions) are running on pheromones, proposing old solutions to game-changing new problems.
The kudos in being an astronaut is commensurate with the risk. People remember Columbus for crossing the Atlantic, but not John Doe crossing it in a 747. I think there would be plenty of people willing to risk their lives to be among the first people to walk on Mars. People risk their lives in the army for a decent income and medical care.
Yes, there's nothing like learning-by-doing. I've got a very strong grasp of Lua from writing addons for World of Warcraft. Now I use Lua for my musical projects and am considering trying an iPhone app with it.
Futzing around with modems, getting my modem to answer calls, and making sure my friend and I had compatible IP addresses so we could play Starcraft. That was one of my minor IT triumphs back in the day. *sigh*
... that at least some climate activity isn't and can't be affected by humans.
I'm hoping the missing sunspots has contributed to the extended drought in Australia. "The driest *insert month or time period* on record" is getting tiresome.
Bach only wrote one piece for them, perhaps because it was a funeral ode and the "In 17th century Germany a variant of the bent ancient lituus was still used as a signalling horn by nightwatchmen" (thank you Wikipedia). Something to signal the dead as they pass on. If the performance was anything like the one on the news page it would have been a good reason for not writing any more.
I would go further than to say "Bach's motet... was one of the last pieces of music written for the Lituus". It's definitely the only known piece and almost certainly the only post-ancient piece for Lituus.
On the rare occasions people leave a voicemail at my home phone it gets emailed to me as a.wav file. It's handy if I'm overseas or something, if only people would use it more...
Brilliant! But what happens when a Fire Mage cuts loose, and immolates himself? Judging from the food items offered, I'll bet that toilet has a lot of methane in it...
I wasn't terrribly impressed by Second Life either. Unfortunately it seems that User-Created Content = Cybersex. I guess it would be possible to put together a group of enthusiasts for one's particular nerdy topic, but plain old text forums are so much better for that.
The terrorists won when the US spent an unimaginable amount of money and thousands if its young people starting an ongoing war in Iraq with poor/no evidence.
In the unlikely (but obviously plausible) scenario that the plane does hit the building, I guess I'd want to be as close to the ground floor as possible, and may consider missing half an hour of whatever that corporate stuff they do there is to that purpose.
From what I know of these mysterious "females", they do indeed do the choosing, and have sometimes been known to choose Slashdotters. My guess would have to be despite, rather than because of, any given male's Slashdot status.
If lots of people have a fast connection (with appropriate backhaul), I can see a lot more mirroring happening in Australia, even PTP software favouring other Australian peers, and stuff like that. Especially if the price of data originating inside and outside Australia has a vague correlation with what it costs.
I've been interested in Australian broadband for years but haven't heard of this. I guess I'll never be rich enough to live in that kind of place. Do you get decent prices & downloads?
I (think) I remember from Arthur C. Clarke's book 3001: The Final Odyssey that humans had an energy crisis when fossil fuels ran out, until they found a virtually limitless source of energy somewhere. After that, unrestrained energy use the heated up the earth and made it uninhabitable.
Perhaps though, with virtually unlimited energy the earth could be cooled somehow. Not Homer Simpson's way (opening the fridge during a heatwave), maybe making the earth reflect more of the sun's energy.

... as the pre-Noah Sumerians must have found out :-)
Luckily all they were recording was how many animals they had, so it became pretty much a moot point.
Seeing no one else has, I should link to how our forebears managed at the time of Mad Men.
How about IP over Voice?

Yes, it's more plausible than a meteor. Nevertheless, the middle of the Atlantic in the middle of the night doesn't give your cause much publicity.

I think you have to be quite a bit more proficient at a skill than whom you're observing to be able to understand the rationale.
As a composer, quickly understanding a piece of music is an indication (to me) that it may not be very good.
Reminds me of a comedian I saw in 1997:
Man: Text messaging is getting more sophisticated. Soon you'll be able to enter texts using voice recognition.
Father: Why not just call them?

Otherwise every 500th kid would get articles written about them. That's a lot of journalism.

An artist obtains copyright through talent and creativity. Corporations obtain copyright using money.
Money can be fun and useful, but it's a substitute for the real thing.
