Please have a 3 month food supply of what you normally eat and perhaps an extended food storage. Buy a couple extra things when you go to the store. The LDS church has been teaching this for many years and it sure helps during more common disasters, like losing your job. Also have a 72 hour kit and a 2 week supply of water. They can be done relatively inexpensively. We went to Walmart and got their used 5 gallon icing buckets and cleaned them and and filled them with water. You are much much more likely to need to use something like this than a fortified bunker which is financially out of reach for most of us.

I wonder how useful the data is for family history. Most people who have spent any time at this can get their family history back a few generations fairly easily. A 1940 census won't help beyond that.

My understanding is that Mormons are only a small, but active group of people who work on their family histories. My understanding that most of ancestry.com's customers are not LDS. Researching your family history is a lot of fun. I found it great to see the long line of practical jokers starting with a great grandma who put on the bear rug after dark to encourage her son not to be doing his chores so late. It is also fascinating to see just how much things can change in just one generation. From the father who was hateful, and almost ate the Spanish guide, to two sons who received awards (one from the president of Mexico) and both served in their state legislatures. There are some incredible stories of faith and perseverance and some fun ones about interesting accomplishments. I encourage you to learn about those who came before you.

I fail to see how that type of model even works. My understanding is that you buy a failing company and then figure out how to turn it around. If it can't be turned around then you kill it. Or I guess you could try to bribe people in government and try to get tax dollars to be an artificial life support. I would much rather have unprofitable companies die so people can move on to something better. As far as Mitt Romney's religion, I consider him a good member of the LDS Church (I am LDS myself). Was Mitt Romney wrong on abortion? Yes, but before we judge him too harshly you need to look at why. He had a cousin die from a botched self-abortion. He eventually figured out he was wrong and changed his position. Now as a disclaimer Romney is not my first choice, Ron Paul is. But I would be comfortable voting for Romney. Newt has made a career of being a serial liar but in private and public and although I like some things about Rick, he is only running to take votes from Mitt, just like Huckabee did 4 years ago. I think the primary is pretty much over and Romney will get the nomination. Newt is just trying to get him to spend all his money before he goes against Obama. Just my opinion.

But we aren't a democracy. We are a republic and too few people realize this. The masses are too stupid and easy to control so politicians greatly prefer a democracy to a republic. Under a republic they would have to follow this thing call the Constitution which places limits on what the federal government can do. In a democracy they just have to convince enough idiots that they want something and they magically they have the power to do it. Democracies fail when the majority realize they can raid the treasury, much like this last stimulus check. Really, there are enough people in large groups who are stupid. It isn't too hard to manipulate them to give you more power and if you get caught doing something bad there usually isn't enough people who care to stop you.

One theory for the multitude of religions is that many different men have made attempts to try to explain what is going on around them. Another is that there is some fundamental truth that people have departed from. So let us assume there is a true religion which has all truth. When people fall away from that religion they take many pieces, which they agree with, and substitute those they disagree with with other things. Once you have one corrupted religion many others break off and try to reform it but without proper authority they cannot reform. This is a start into a discussions but I cannot do it justice right here. When you have a firmer understanding it is amazing how it all fits together. That was a lot of assumptions. My religious beliefs are somewhat different than you describe. I wish to explain them, not to belittle you, but to hopefully increase your understanding if you wish.

First, my religion teaches that we were spirits before this life and must get bodies to progress. My understanding is that these bodies are hard things to master. They have appetites and passions. Part of that body includes the brain. This also has appetites and passions and is something that we must also master. Think of somebody who is lazy in their mind. They must discipline their mind through study. I find the brain very much like a muscle, even though it is made of different matter. But I also believe there is something higher, our spirit, which is controlling it.

What is a spirit made of? I don't know and I am OK with that. Just imagine trying to explain radio waves to people 500 years ago. They would have thought you were crazy. Just because we don't understand how it works doesn't mean it doesn't exist and isn't possible.

The God I believe in is not changing. He doesn't change law based on what we call a mood. But He does give us agency to make our own decisions. Sometimes those decisions help alleviate the suffering of others and sometimes they cause it.

When does God come in and destroy a people with something like a flood? Think of it as an orchard with trees. When a tree is so full of disease and rot that it cannot provide any more good fruit wouldn't you destroy it? This happens when people cannot make a choice for good because that society will not allow it.

As far as women, our church has the largest women's organization in the world. We are constantly taught that we should treat our wifes as our equals.

I do not solely rely on ancient texts for my information. We believe in modern scripture, modern prophets, and modern personal revelation. Knowing God is a very personal experience but there is an order established with a hierarchy of leaders to prevent false prophets and confusion.

As I have said knowing God is a very personal experience. This knowledge must be obtained by each person. I have seen plenty of evidence in my own life as to the love, mercy, knowledge, and power of God.

Why does God choose to do things this way? My understanding is that we wouldn't have agency unless God allowed us to choose and come to Him. He is all powerful and by making that power completely obvious would not allow us a proper choice.

Please respond if you have further questions. I hope I have been able to expand your understanding.

I am a person who believes very strongly that God gives us agency and that agency is essential to our progression through life. I also believe that most decisions are made automatically.
