Is there a specific drive or is it just the key word?
Say if I was looking for a new burner which one would be the best?
To me they just tested to see if the individual lied about which tech they have heard about HD DVD versus Blu-ray.

How much do you pay someone to invest your money?
How much is your child worth compared to your investments?
How much time and investment do you put into your car?
Think about it.... you pay top dollar to get a good investor and yet you want to spend the lowest possible amount to educate and guide your most valuable assets - you children. (The time you spend researching buying a house, car, or investing would also be classified as a cost towards it.)
Pay teachers more and you will slowly get better teachers. I have friends that are amazing teachers and kids love them but they refuse to teach at schools. They would rather host company sponsored learning seminars where they get paid a livable amount.
That is nice... those greedy companies will go bankrupt in the end.
If some little start up company found the cure for cancer or HIV they would make a vast sum of money and the big pharmaceutical would lose a huge source of revenue and most likely go into bankruptcy. They invest heavily in these treatment drugs and need to sell them for years to ever see a return on their investments.
If they had a known cure and with held it to make more money on treatments they could be charged with all sorts of crimes and sue buy surviving victims and beneficiaries of their corporate greed.
That is why we need to donate money to research specific drugs. Or worse yet have line on your income tax form to donate money to government run research houses that are really trying to find a cure. Sadly we sometimes need the government to do what the public sector can not even it they do it really inefficient. For example in Canada we have Crown (or government) own business to do thing that are required for society to function. It cost more to do than it can bring in (For example public transit).
Being that the compnay I work for supplies us with a cell phone it is the cheapest one they can find.
The first phone I used had a IR port on it. I could sink my email address book to the phone's address book. Worked like a charm.
The second phone I use had no IR port and the only way to transfer the phone book was to pay the cell phone provider. I would upload the address book to them and they would send it to my phone for a small fee per phone number. Luckly one of techs made a data transfer cable out of some old wires and duck tape - which worked well enough to transfer over the phone list at least once.
Why to the phone companys like to nickle and dime you death. Why to the cell phone manufactures put out phones will less good features and more poof. I really liked the IR port idea and thought it would be a great way to transfer songs, images, address books, connect the internet via a dial up service, etc to and from the phone. Must have been too good of a idea and the cell phone providers did not make enough money!
I bet NASA will Settle out of court as it will cost less than fighting it.
I would like her to prove that her horoscope where 100% accurate prior to the probing. I could see a case if she was 100% accurate with her astrological readings prior to the comet probe and now has significantly less than 100% accuracy.

Second point. I have the 7.1 surround sound set up. it seems to me that about 80% of the movies are 5.1 19% are 6.1 and 1% are 7.1.
The advantage is that I have a reciever that claims to up the signal to simulate 7.1. I rarely use that feature of the reciever. Instead I just listen to the movie in the sound recorded, be that 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1. My reciever can just play back the sound using the signal sent to it with out tryig to simulate 7.1. I find using what the movie was encoded with give me a true sound that they are tyring to impress upon the viewer.
I have found most movies at 5.1 sound good. 6.1 add that extra touch, which is really nice. 7.1 is a bit of over kill and does not add that much to my movie experince over 6.1. I am sure as time goes buy more movies will support 7.1 and those movies will take full advantage of it makeing it sound better than 6.1. Mind you I have only heard a very small handfull of movies played on my system in true 7.1.
Only a cheap or poorly managed Cyber cafe would allow users to install software.
I have seen set ups that will let you install, or even format the c drive. But upon turning the computer off and then back up it restores itself to the correct settings. Most likely comparing the disk image to one stored on a server.
It make it nice to be able to install a game or some other software and when you leave the workstation you know that no one else will see what had installed or had running.
The bonus was that the cache and history files where wiped out with each log off.
We so many individuals competing for the research money you need to stand out. The only way is to work with-in the structure to the point where you are at the top and/or recognized. For example would you give a 20 year old a 10 million dollar budget to research something??? Or would you give it to a 40 or 50 year old?
It is also the guy that is in charge that takes all the credit not the lowly worker. Case in point the inventor of the light bulb, Thomas Edison, was not the individual but the finical backer of the lab that did the research. I have my doubt Thomas Edison did much hands on work rather it was group effort of his lab which he over saw and financed.
This guy hit the nail on the head. I like the part about AI. Harder should not always mean more enemies but smarter enemies. Ememies with some basic tatics would be impressive.
MAC = Finite set of Proprietary hardware to program for.
MS = Nearly infinite combination of hardware to program for.
Ideally all hardware items of the same type should respond in a similar matter. But as that is just a theory... in practice it is hardly ever true.
I am not a big fan of MS business practices but they do a pretty good job allowing a OS to run on a very unpredictable set of hardware. It is far from perfect but it is next to impossible write dynamic software to handle the nearly infinite possible hardware configuration. Trying to write such software is bound to have unknown flaws.
MAC plays it safe by laying out to the user what they need and an OS that has been tested and runs on the specified hardware.
The closed proprietary system makes life a lot easier for the developer.
For M$ not to sell directly to the government is not a bad thing. Now M$ must sell the software to a company and then that company will sell it to the Government.
Hopefully government officials or relatives of government officials do not own this intermediary company.
I have seen it before where governments block manufacturers selling directly to consumers or retails... they must first sell the product to distributors and the distributors sell the products to retailers. More people in the supply chain and the product are marked up 40% each time.
I thought I read somewhere that if human could live forever then the average life span would be about 600 years. Just because you can live-forever does not mean you can avoid the statistics of fatal accidents.
You would get the odd person to live to over a 1000 just like we find people today that live beyond 100 years.
The really bad thing about people living forever is the jobs. How would you like the entry level position for the next 200 years and by the time you could get an advancement your skills would be out of date so some young punk would get the job over you. I doubt anyone would like being a burger flipper for 300 years! I have my doubt that any marriage would last more than 100 years.
Or should I say.... Games to not kill people; people do!
What are the stats that support her statement? Have violent crimes against women and other races gone up or down since the first video game was released? Or maybe the increased consumption of bottle water has increased rate of violent crime.

Since it seems common for pros to take enhancement drugs then make it safe for all teams to take it.
Right now it is a cat and mouse game. The league doctors could control the drugs and administer them safely to those who wanted them. That way we know how many on them are on the stuff.
That would make it safer for the players and for the individuals betting on the game.
Right. It would be nice if the cable companies would sell you the signal, be it HDTV or whatever, and then it was yours to do with what you want.
The Cable Company could offer to sell/rent you a main decoder box. That way you would just have one device to decode the singal and you could split it to as many TVs as you want after that.
If the cable companies where smart they would base their main decoder box on an open standard so you could buy 3rd party devices if you really wanted some special features. The best part would be if you had only one TV then you could get away with out having a extra stupid box hooked up before you could watch TV - the TV would decode it for you if needed (as long it was on some open standards).
In Oil and Coal burning we know the effects on the environment are 100% bad. People get cancers and die from the pollution.
In a nuclear planet it may have a problem and then you might die. The pollution can be controlled.
In one case you KNOW that lots of people will get sick and DIE from the pollution. In the case of nuclear the pollutants can be contained and stored and in an accident you might get sick and die.
The difference is that in one you have near 100% chance of killing people (oil and coal burning) and much lower chance in the other (nuclear power).
You get the point??? If you burn oil and coal you know you are going to kill someone via the cancers caused by the pollution. If you safely use nuclear energy you may never hurt anyone via pollution.
Most importantly with nuclear you can control your own energy and not rely upon another country. What would happen if the country you relied upon committed acts of terrorism or was a cruel to its population? Spend $350 billion to stabilize a foreign government so they can continue selling you their oil?
Why download it all. If you wanted Word to load from a centeral location why would you need to download all of it.
You have the core stored locally on the computer and just fetch small.dlls from the server (and if the server is unavalable then use locally stored one (like a cache)). The main core of Word has hardly changed... the skins have and minor bits.
As for never needing to maintance that is possible too. Have the software to do it already loaded on the computer and every so often it could check the server and see if needs to run the maintance programs silently in the back groud. Upload the results to google. Google then could flag bad issues and specificly alter you computer to do certain task to fix it.
There is tons of time your computer is not doing anything at all. That time could be used to silently upload updates and do maintance on the PC.
For the average Joe they would never even notice it. And the PC would always appear to be in good working order.
With MS adding the popular features it only follows that the instigators of pop-up ads and other obtrusive ads will implant new code to take advantage of IE 7.0 'new' features.
Instead of having a pop-up ad appear when you navigate to a site the advertiser could simplify add a tab. Nothing like surfing to a p0rn site to get 500 million pop-up adds you could have 500 million tabs appear.
Once the advertisers know how to do this to IE 7.0 they WILL port it over to other popular browsers. I am sure everyone using a modern browsers have started to notice a slight increase in obtrusive ads designed to handle your particular browser.

The amazing thing about English is that butchers the grammar and spelling and still get the 'general idea' across.
The statement "Me know english good 'nough." will communicate what I wanted to say and surprisingly you will understand it.
In very few other languages can you get away with such grammarical fubar.
