  5. Re:Get a leash! on Could GPS Keep Tabs On Your Pets? · · Score: 0

All I know is that anyone who allows their cat to run around outside without a leash really does not care for that cat. The average lifespan of an outdoor cat is just 2 years. Why would anyone who cares about their pet want risk that pet dying in 2 years or less (remember average means half of them die in less than 2 years)? Not to mention all the nuisance they cause to other people who do not want them around. My dog loves socializing and exploring every bit as much as any cat but I can't and wouldn't allow him to just run wild outside. Why should cats be any different?

  8. Who is really smarter? on Chimps Evolved More Than Humans · · Score: 1, Funny

I often wonder if humans really are the smartest species. Take dogs for example. What is their life like? They lay around, sleep and play all day long. Sleep all night long in a warm comfortable house. Get food and water every day. And get to have sex with people's legs anytime they want. What is our life like? We go to work 40 hours a week (or more) to barely survive, fight wars, are all bunched together in small spaces (think New York), always wonder when we get to have sex again and there is always danger of us being killed. So are we really the smartest species? Chimps probably look at us and say "what a bunch of dummies, working all the time just to survive when they could be playing and having fun all day long like we do...sheesh what idiots".

Were no security patches loaded in that whole time? I have seen very few of the many security patches loaded onto my Windows box at work that didn't require a reboot. Almost every one required my machine to be rebooted. So while the Windows boxes may have technically been up running, they were probably so hackable it would be scary.

Nobody ever said you have to be married to have house payments and other responsibilities. I just said that when you have those responsibilities, you can't just up and quit your job anytime you don't like how things are going. The initial response suggested that if you don't like your job or how you are being treated to just quit. Well that isn't really possible when you have responsibilities such as house payments, car payments and/OR a family. So your options are to secretly look for another job WHILE working still and hope you can find one or just suck it up and take it.

Oh and if they decide to outsource your job, there is no recourse at all. Then you get to enjoy the fun of trying to figure out how you can keep your house and cars and/OR family without a job. Unemployment usually isn't enough to cover all that and it also runs out very fast. In the job market these days, often unemployment runs out before a new job can be found.

Unions in their current form might not be ideal. Just like anything else they have their pros and cons. But the one thing they did provide was a fair shake for the employees. Right now there is no fair shake at all for the employee. Maybe unions need to be thought out again and changed to fit the dynamics of the tech industry. But I really think employees need a way to fight back and give themselves a fair shake in the job market.

  12. Re:Fight your own battles. on Tech Workers of the World Unite? · · Score: 1

Easy to say when you don't have a house payment, car payments, food, bills and a family that are relying on you to pay all those bills. Can't just up and quit whenever you feel like it. Wait until you have a bunch of responsibilities and see if you feel the same way. I personally don't care if Joe Smoe slacker gets a pay raise or not. That is his problem. I just care if I get one or not. But job security is much more important these days for anyone who has a family and responsibilities and untions do bring with them job security.

The fact that you still see plenty of every class in WoW shows that the classes are actually balanced quite well. If there were a superior class to all others, everyone and their dog would be playing that class. This has been evidenced in other games ( Jedi in SWG ) in the past.

  14. Their customer service BLOWS! on John Smedley Answers Your Questions · · Score: 1

My question isn't how, when or why the game changes were made or even if they are good or bad. My question is when are they going to fix their sucky customer service? It is the worst I have ever seen. I started playing SWG one week after beta. I have been through everything that has happened in the game and I continued to stick with it. I finally got my Jedi and maxed out his template and got bored with the game. So I started playing WoW about 6 months ago waiting to see if they were going to bring back the Force Ranking System (FRS) for Jedi. WoW has been the most fun MMORPG game I have ever played. Last night I decided to get onto SWG and give the new game a try. Since I was a previous Jedi I went to get my robe and crystal that we get for all our hard work of becoming a Jedi under the old systems. When I got there to get my robe, there was some guy shouting in a looped macro about how much SOE and the game sucks. The UI is still bugged and doesn't show what each of the robes looks like. So I was trying to ask some other people who were there also. But I couldn't see their responses for all the spam flying by from that macro. So without selecting a robe I tried to open the screen to put the guy on my ignore list. When I did that it automatically selected a robe for me. Turns out is isn't the robe I wanted. I submitted a CSR ticket asking them to exchange the robe for the one I wanted. Nothing more. Both robes are identical except they look different. So there is no benefit to one or the other. I just liked the look of the other one better. I got a response from the CSR and he said he couldn't do it and he closed the ticket. That was it, nothing more. A completely harmless thing could have kept a customer happy and willing to try out the new changes. But now I am sick and tired of being treated this way by them. I'm closing my two accounts tonight. It appears SOE has absolutely no interest in keeping their customers happy and playing. So they are losing the money from my two accounts too and like most other people have said, I will never again buy another SOE game.
