You don't necessarily HAVE to upgrade to Longhorn. You can either jump on the bandwagon and shell out $50-100 for a new Graphics card, or you acn just wait until the next time you buy a PC. I don't think this will be a problem. It will probably be a VERY good thing for gamers though. Since more PCs will need higher-end Graphics cards, price will probably drop, making gaming less expensive.
Why is it that a desktop made primarily from notebook parts (a fairly safe assumption, I think) Costs just over 1/2 of what a semi-comparable notebook from the same company costs? If Apple released a $500 notebook, I would seriously consider it, but at $1000 US... Jeez. But then, I guess that's what eBay is for.
As horrible as that would be, I don't think it'll happen anytime soon. As long as the internet is functional, people will want a connection thta doesn't take half an hour to download files, whether they be MP3s, windows updates,.deb,.rpm, etc.
Seriously though, I see your point, but I think we can all agree that computers today are definitely not on the same level as those in, say, I, Robot. Even though it is extremely difficult to discern the point where they become something... else.
I was reading somewhere about the technological singularity, which is the point at which computers are more intelligent than humans in just about every way.
When I say 'a good 100 years off', I mean that technology will *probably* not advance to this point in the next 100 years, because of current trends in the advancement of hardware and software capability.
The definition of 'this point' is widely debated, but to me, it means the point where artificial intelligence is rival to our own, or at least that of a less intelligent animal.
I hardly think a computer deserves a say in court. Unless its self-aware, which is a good 100 years off, and even then... oh well. (i realize this story is ficticious)

You have a point too. I don't think any method currently used is quite suitable... But wasn't there something about banning people from the internet on/. last week?
Maybe a 10-year internet ban, fine, AND community service? I'm too tired to quote, but somebody said that jail just punishes people instead of rehabilitating them... They're more likely to reoffend after. I agree. I guess there really isn't a perfect solution.
Would YOU like to pay the taxes required to lock up every hacker and build 7 new prisons in the process? I didn't think so... Jail costs the gov't money... Fines GIVE the gov't money... Now if every hacker was fined, as opposed to jailed, what do you suppose that would do?
Not to mention that jail IS pointless... Are they going to hurt anyone if they aren't in jail? Well, chances are they're not going to be mugging anybody, this is a hacker/geek we're talking about. And are they going to hack/phish/whatever for the next few months/years? Not if they're very intelligent. This is just my theory, but I would imagine these people's online activity would be monitored... So if they do try something stupid, we get to collect another fine!
But then again, I'm Canadian... (see if you can pick up on the cynicism)
I, also, am in high school. I have used my TI-83+ to program just about everything, from factoring numbers to the quadratic formula... I would be interested to know what percentage of Slashdot readers program on their graphing calculators (if applicable) as opposed to regular people.
If for some reason you were cheap enough to NOT want to upload said file, you can get a firewall (I use the free ZoneAlarm). When it says btdownloadgui.exe is trying to act as a server, deny it permission. The one time I did try this, there was no upload, so barring strange coincidences, this is how to stay legal.
I agree. I have an RCA Lyra RD2820 (iPod for poor people). All around, it isn't all that great, but it holds a lot of music, and it supports MP3PRO. 64bit sounds exactly like a 128 regular MP3. (but then again, I'm no audiophile.) Too bad MP3PRO never took off... It's divided the size of my music library by two. (and at 3000+ songs...)
I was playing a game in Zanzibar with warthogs when I noticed the explosive crates... When I drove into them, I did at LEAST 8 flips in the air (barrel rolls) It would be interesting to see what would happen if you rounded all of them up and drove into them... or better yet, attack them with an energy blade... interesting...
So say they base the OS on Linux/*BSD?
I think you mean "*wasting* any time"
Maybe I'm wrong or thinking of a different 'rag', but isn't that the national ENquirer?

I didn't say I'm a big fan of IBM, but their business strategy lately seems to be quite good.
They seem to be making all the right moves... thousands of patents, contributions to Open-Source... Jeez. They might be on to something here.

On second thought, I think I may have taken thta post in the wrong direction altogether... sorry.

But then there's always print screen / aquire...
It depends what the definition of is is...

OMG!!! That's almost a dollar... suck it up.

That said, don't do it. Don't ruin BitTorrent.
If you unzip the file, then find the content.xml, the text is salvageable. (especially if you have a syntax highlighting program)
Just open content.xml in notepad or something, trim out the tags, and you should be good to go. It may be awkward, but if you NEED the file...
