Bell most surely has suspiciously strong ties with big L Liberals.
To be fair though the takeover deal WAS approved by the shareholders. The lower court decision blocking the sale was brought forward by bond/debt holders who argued that the sale would have a negative effect on their holdings.
The supreme court found that while it was likely that these groups would be adversely affected there was no precedent to block the sale.
Essentially saying, "If you're not a shareholder, tough luck".
Canadians get this a lot actually. Comedy Central, Pandora and a few others. The sites themselves apologize for it but that doesn't do us much good.... eh.
I'd argue Colonel Tigh does the exact same thing but doesn't necessarily get the same happy turnouts. He's got severe personal problems that often spill into his professional life but Tigh has consistently done what he feels is best for the survival of the species (not necessarily the 'good of the people'). The episodes where he leads the resistance are still some of the most insightful the show has ever turned out.
All this with the sad caveat of 'when he's sober'.
When you make the issue personal like that it obscures the underlying issue. If you've got more money than me than it's understood that you can leverage this to your benefit. This isn't skipping the line at a popular club or slipping a few bills to get a seat in an otherwise 'full' restaurant though. With health care you're not "jumping the line"; you're endangering someone else's welfare for the chance to benefit your own.
Of course when it is your family you're willing to walk through broken glass and damn the consequences. The Canadians understand that this is distasteful and have repeatedly chosen not to partake in it.
Well because it wasn't exactly free. While Crackdown was a great game there were many people that purchased it primarily to gain access to the Halo 3 Beta.
Only in a literal sense, current 'clones' are more akin to a bad photocopy with a shortened lifespan, weaker disease resistance and other factors that are still under study.
Like getting your leg blown off, blood starts spraying all over the place and you get the little [PIPBoy] interface image giving you the thumbs up - I find that funny.
Is it just me or did this never ever happen in either of the Fallouts?
With Sony this is simply not the case. Sony Electronics (SEL) is supposed to be separate from the other parts of the company but is constantly hamstrung by Sony Entertainment(SME).
The Minidisc was an amazing piece of technology that had no competitor but thanks to piracy concerns it was 're-tooled' to the point of being useless. Without the artificial limitations imposed by SME minidisc could have cornered the flash drive market before it got off the ground.
Sony DVD players work well enough but until recently refused to allow other codecs such as divx or the use of re-writable DVDs. Again a pure technology company would have no reason not to follow the market and include these features.
Sony only included MP3 support in their music players last year. Another bonehead decision that every other company avoided because they don't have a content division calling the shots
FTA: "they let the worst possible thing happen: they allowed one programmer to design the infrastructure with no supervision. What's worse, they obviously required no documentation of what was done."
What actually happened was that the island was being left with a skeleton crew for the weekend. After the Nedry character sabotaged the system, the first thing the other characters do is try to phone "his people". With the phone system out however having the engineer say "I can't get Jurrassic Park back online without Dennis Nedry" doesn't seem all that far fetched.
Not requiring a password after a system reset however......
Whatever else you can say about Sony, their hardware is typically top notch (and almost always crippled by their software). If they're letting quality slide on the manufacturing side then they're in danger of losing their one remaining ace, the perception that "Sony makes good shit".
I'm talking about the average consumer who's unaware of rootkits, sonicstage or ejecting MMORPG users into space.
Science doesn't claim there isn't a Casper the Friendly Ghost, it just has no proof to demonstrate that there is a Casper the Friendly Ghost. Science can address that which we can see, touch, and feel in the physical world--but the concept of a "Casper the Friendly Ghost" is inherently non-physical so science will never be able to prove it exists. But lack of that proof doesn't mean Casper the Friendly Ghost doesn't exist.
If you look at the strategy employed on the DS (another non-innovative system by your reckoning) you will see that while there are many games that take advantage of the touch screen/microphone there are also many successful games that don't make use of it al all.
Nintendo will encourage developers to make use of the unique capabilities of the Wii but they will not force feed it to the public. If Nintendo feels that a game is better experienced with a standard gamepad they'll run with it.
Don't blame me, I bought a Cyrix!
Feel free to mock me, however.
"Next up we have the latest song from Rammstein, they're German so you know it's going to be good stuff"
The article mentions that the software allows a linux laptop to charge the battery.
My eee has always been able to do this without any software, anyone else?

The first rule of checkers fight club is that you do not talk about checkers fight club.
Actually Canada isn't just talking about it, they're furiously producing it. We've quietly become your primary supplier of crude.
Yet with all this new supply pouring in from the north the price of oil hasn't dropped a bit.

Not to be a pedant but Polar Bears in their natural habitat will actively hunt humans.
Unless you're Catholic.

Not on your life, my Slashdot friend. Now throw your hands up and rejoice, This bendy screen's your only choice!

Scarier food for thought is wondering if turning off the "feature" actually makes any difference.
Is it just me or did this never ever happen in either of the Fallouts?
I dunno, he'd have to be a huge friggen guy.

Redundancy is often necessary. Think of how many failure levels are on the space shuttle.
You've confused oxymoron with redundant. You've learned nothing!
