    This sounds a lot like a virtual machine on top of a FPGA board. Would be neat to store a VM or OS on a seperate layer, and allow the OS to reflash the FPGA to optimize the hardware to a specific task.

    I'm anxious to see how this develops. My only concern with the "coming Internet-TV age" is the whole bandwidth throttling. What's to start some start-up from getting TV feeds like any cable company does and creating an internet-TV station.

    That with devices like Myth Boxes, and the media center boxes. I can imagine people giving up TV completely and just keeping their broadband connection. I know I would.

    Would something like ping, ethereal/wireshark, etc be considered hacking tools? Or are they more concerned with programs such as "Double Click here to launch attack on Windows Box, prebuilt hacking packages. Not really sure what hackers use, but as a system admin I hope the others aren't.

    NT and 2000 wasn't bad. But 95/98/ME/ (sometimes XP) seem to poorly destroy hung processes. Just my view, to be honest I very rarely use windows. Been running Linux since '96 and run it at work too. So maybe it's better now.

    What kind of machine and architecture was it? Knew NT use to run on Alpha and back then I've seen quad alpha's. But nothing like 64 CPU's.

    So not sure what they mean but redesigning. What would be nice is to make the windows kernel truly preemptive multitasking. I like how in Linux you can kill -9 a rogue program, but when a program crashes in windows it takes the whole system down. Ctrl-alt-delete (kill process) how often does it really kill the process vs hanging the system.

    Anyway, no need to redesign, just fix what they already have.

    What is the exact loophole that Novel is using that GPL3 is supposed to fix? There seems to be several stories over the whole Novel/MS deal, but I have yet to actually read what about the GPL that was wrong that someone (assuming they did) abused it.

    Thought even after GPL 3 comes out authors had the right to choose which license they could use. People may very well stick to GPL 2, or dual license.

    This is just the "free market" at work. Sounds like the Brits are just starting to get a taste of what us American's have been going through. Cheaper wins. Since when has business been about "fair play". Whoever get's the most, cheapest, wins.

    True it will hurt the local market, but that's the price you pay for a free market. Not agreeing with it, but it's the reality of the new world.

    In a well rounded ecosystem things generally work out for the best of all. So I can see "everyone is generally good"

    To answer your question though: environmental stress

    An animal might yell to alert others despite helping itself. But at the same time if the animal is stressed, hungry, whatever it will eat it's own.

    Same with humans. If we were all relatively healthy, financially stable (not rich mind you but didnt have to worry about money as much) then the world will be a better place. But since we're all fighting each other for limited resources to see who can survive, altruism is out the window.

    It's a dog eat dog world out there, so we have to survive.

    Perhaps better than no access but I wonder what kind of agreement they had to sign. A friend of mine had a GoDaddy site, and when he wanted to move it to his own server, domain name and all, GoDaddy more or less refused to let him. After a couple months battling, he had to threaten a lawsuit for them to release his domain name.

    Since then and all the drama I had to see him go through it left a bad taste in my mouth for the company.

    I think this will pass for one reason. Isn't it the government who wants google (every computer owner) to maintain that data? So when something comes up and they need to datamine who did what/when/where on what website they have a clean trail? A few months back, there was a lot of chatter about the government requiring people to keep lists of who's on the network (**AA), and companies to archive all email (Enron) so they could follow a trail.

    Seems like catch-22 if they didn't allow it.

    PS3 isn't selling very well, but at least I've seen one out of the store. I have yet to even see someone with a Zune, and I use to work at a major retailer when it came out. We didnt sell a single one, at least not on any of my shifts.

    They can do that already. A friend of mine who recently moved to cali has a security system you can program vocally and also talks back. Plus there was an article on Smart Homes I read about a wee bit ago. Wish I could remember the title/magazine.

    Programs that benefit from parallel programming more than likely are already parallelized. (Photoshop, Maya, Chess programs, Games, etc) What's the point in parallelizing Notepad? My point not everything needs to be developed like this, but anything CPU intensive can benefit and most of the time does.

    As a wordpress user how do you fix it? I only blog to keep in touch with family and friend who live out of state. But it's been a fun project, though if it is easily exploitable I'd like to know how to fix it, and not just "you're site is EZly hax0red"
