Does Flex have db access? If so this might make a fun alternative to using JAVA w/ Swing for creating portable applications for viewing datasets.

  2. Re:Nintendo did just about everything right. on How Wii Is Creaming the Competition · · Score: 1

The virtual console is another big reason I bought a Wii.. I wanted to get all of the Zelda games playable on one system. From a technical point of view, I figured with the power of the Wii they basically just wrote lean emulator for each system and would be selling the original roms + some kind of DRM. Is that the case, or are they literally taking the original games and recompiling with some kind of Wii wrapper? If the way I thought is true, then releasing should be as simple as cat nesgame.rom + drm.rom > Wii net. If it's the second, then I can see it taking a while. Because that would require a lot more effort and they'd have to pick the most economic games.

  3. Re:software sales? on How Wii Is Creaming the Competition · · Score: 1

I went the same route, Wii + Wii Play and I bought the bundle that came with Sonic (which sucks btw and I like Sonic). I love the Wii and the games that came with it, but since those are getting old I'm starting to twitch waiting for something fun to come out. I go to blockbuster and the only thing that looks interesting is Zelda. Wii needs more games! On a side note I am very anxious to get Animal Crossing next year, been wanting it since I bought my DS.

  4. Great piece of software on Wordpress Complete · · Score: 3, Insightful

Since I've moved out of state I setup a blog to keep my family/friends up to date on life and as a personal diary. This is a wonderful piece of software. I didnt want to go the route of using a service like Livejournal because I wanted complete control of the software and run it on my own server. With wordpress I had a nice blog up and running in about 30minutes. Another nice feature is that it's protocol is open, so as a Linux user I just apt-get install drivel, and voila posting to my blog via a nice local program without having to login to the site itself. A+ :)

  5. Re:You're kidding. Right? Right? on Spinal Tap to Reunite for Live Earth · · Score: 1

I've never seen the movie before. But from the pics I've seen I know one of the guys is an actor. So I always thought it was just some movie band. Then I heard they released a couple albums. Did the actors really sing and perform the music? If so then they are a real band, kinda like how the Blues Brothers started as a film thing, and budded into a modest music career. Just confused over what is true or not. I'll have to rent the movie this weekend.

  6. Spinal Tap on Spinal Tap to Reunite for Live Earth · · Score: 2

Always been confused over this. Is Spinal Tap a real band, or just a movie made band that parodies the rock industry. Thought it was the latter, but people talk about it so passionately as if it was a real band.

  12. iPhone not programmable. on AT&T to Target iPhone to Enterprise · · Score: 1

Perhaps OT, but curious. A lot of people are complaining that the iPhone sucks because it doesnt have a SDK or free development environment. Since when has any phone? Granted you can download the Java SDK for mobile phones, but can you actually load it to your phone? I'm under the impression the only way to get software on your phone from any provider is to pay them for a "service" to use software X for Y amount of time. I can't just write my own Reversi game and load it on my verizon phone. I hope I'm wrong, if so let me know how.

A couple years back I read an article about possibly using the HIV virus itself to create an anti-HIV virus. With it's STD origins, they even joked that the anti-HIV virus could also be transmitted sexually, so it would be a cheap way of inoculating the world. Though I haven't heard any updates since. If this was possible, it wouldn't be interesting to companies because once it was out, noone would need to get it from a doctor, they could just sleep with whomever carried it. Different ways at looking at things.

Agree in that context it would be like stealing water or electric. Though my concern is how do you really determine in most cases? I've known people who leave their AP open so people can go online check email, etc. In the town I live there are several legal to use open AP that require no form of authentication. Coffee shops, etc.. there's also libraries, McDonalds, and people who willingly leave their AP's open. So the area is kinda grey. In this case, I do agree sitting outside someone's house is pretty obvious.
