To think a game developer will not port their title over to another console is crazy.
Agreed... but apparently porting TO the PS3 does require some very specific knowledge and talent because of the odd processor architecture and the custom shaders, so it does require deep pockets to start up a PS3 shop. It's probably worthwhile it to outsource the port to a shop that's already set up for PS3 dev.
But Chrome makes it obvious: the browser is the next O/S.
I wish this meme would die... tell me... will your browser have a posix API? Will your browser have it's own video and printer drivers? Will your browser allow me to run Linux as a hosted process?
Rest assured that those who have and do mostly run away screaming...
*looks askance at those who like J*
Those who do *NOT* run away screaming are probably likely to prefer developing Java in notepad, think perl is a good application framework and partake in usenet arguments about usable GIMP is.
Calling MythTV impractical and irrelevant is overly pessimistic. In the digital cable, MythTV isn't very useful; however for those of us who use analog cable (which will be the majority of Americans for a while), MythTV does have some life left.
Well I guess the majority of Americans must be increasingly irrelevant...:-)
Personally I've been using digital cable for six years...
Some of us already live in the future and use SSD on our laptops. Every gigabyte here is precious, since there's often not dozens, hardly even one dozen.
There's a small company in Chile that sells custom-built boxes with it installed, and they sell quite a lot of them to lower-middle income families in the capital.
This must be some strange new meaning of the word "popular" that I was not previously aware of.
Do they also have a "Beware of the Leopard" sign on the basement stairs?
Damn it, what am I going to do with the 10,000 5.25" floppy disks I just copied Spore onto?
Wallpaper for that retro-tech look... hmm that just might be a patentable idea... BRB...

This sounds like a fun game... can I play too?
Google's should get into the business of ...
Some days Slashdot just makes me weep for the future of the planet...
It's a song....
You don't fucking say...
Americaaaa!! Fuck Yeah!
Troll? Dude that was either humor or insight.
Well it made me laugh anyway
it may actually be reasonably fast (as in, will boot in under an hour). Any takers?
Nice... somebody got my point! :-)

Honestly, kids these days...
Wow... moderated into the stone age? How exactly was that offtopic?
GIMP is usable now
As a discriminating individual perhaps I can interest you the first part of our fascinating lecture series on the J language?
you know that "Freedom of Speech" only refers to the law that Congress can't abridge it.
A valid point in the U.S. but what does it mean to the majority of humanity?
... freedom of speech doubly so.
You know what, I'm wrong about that I think. I'm just going to shut up and keep reading.
Now where's the fun in that?
I have never used J and know nothing about J

What? Me bitter?
Hot-sex-land
No, that would be France; where even the politicians can do almost anything in public and be cheered on by the press.
Now that the OpenMoko platform has stabilized enough to provide the OM2008 image
Except that 2008.08 doesn't actually work... it's pretty much alpha quality. (And yes there's workarounds but really... they called this a release?)

Would you perchance be open to applications to become your patron demon? It sounds like a nice job to have.
Would blackjack be a reasonable substitution for blow?
Well, Arioch comes when I summon him most of the time, and does horrible things to obnoxious users. What can you do for me?
Why is it always all about you?
...as far as I'm concerned, a spam-free day is an occasion to praise my patron demon and bring Him an offering of hookers and blow...

How quaint... some of us are reading this on our mobiles with dozens of gigabytes of storage on chips the size of a fingernail.
...can it run Vista/Linux/?
Hell... with a quad core not only can you run Vista, you can ALSO run a Beowolf cluster in VMWare at the same time!
"Popular" is not limited to whether or not Michael Dell likes you, and the world is not just Europe and North America.
Contrariwise, popular in Santiago is about as useful on a global scale as popular in East L.A.
The question is not do Freespire have any customers at all, the question is whether is is reasonable to refer to them as a popular distribution.
I've been messing with Linux since 0.9, and like one of the earlier posters I've never seen Freespire/Linspire in the wild.

It is momentous only because it finally proves that sustainable human life is possible on Mars.
It proves no such thing. It only hints at the possibility.
Ubiquitous personal surveillance technology was one of the driving themes in David Brin's novel Earth.
Anyone interested in the impact of technology on society should read this. (With a grain of salt of course, it's background in a sci-fi novel.)
Even more interesting is the relevance of this other background events and technology to the post Y2K world we live in.
I also wish for a pony.
And blackjack!
