    To think a game developer will not port their title over to another console is crazy.

    Agreed... but apparently porting TO the PS3 does require some very specific knowledge and talent because of the odd processor architecture and the custom shaders, so it does require deep pockets to start up a PS3 shop. It's probably worthwhile it to outsource the port to a shop that's already set up for PS3 dev.

    Except that 2008.08 doesn't actually work... it's pretty much alpha quality. (And yes there's workarounds but really... they called this a release?)

    Calling MythTV impractical and irrelevant is overly pessimistic. In the digital cable, MythTV isn't very useful; however for those of us who use analog cable (which will be the majority of Americans for a while), MythTV does have some life left.

    Well I guess the majority of Americans must be increasingly irrelevant... :-)

    Personally I've been using digital cable for six years...

    Some of us already live in the future and use SSD on our laptops. Every gigabyte here is precious, since there's often not dozens, hardly even one dozen.

    How quaint... some of us are reading this on our mobiles with dozens of gigabytes of storage on chips the size of a fingernail.

    "Popular" is not limited to whether or not Michael Dell likes you, and the world is not just Europe and North America.

    Contrariwise, popular in Santiago is about as useful on a global scale as popular in East L.A.

    The question is not do Freespire have any customers at all, the question is whether is is reasonable to refer to them as a popular distribution.

    I've been messing with Linux since 0.9, and like one of the earlier posters I've never seen Freespire/Linspire in the wild.

    There's a small company in Chile that sells custom-built boxes with it installed, and they sell quite a lot of them to lower-middle income families in the capital.

    This must be some strange new meaning of the word "popular" that I was not previously aware of.

    Do they also have a "Beware of the Leopard" sign on the basement stairs?

    Anyone interested in the impact of technology on society should read this. (With a grain of salt of course, it's background in a sci-fi novel.)

    Even more interesting is the relevance of this other background events and technology to the post Y2K world we live in.
