Given this (from the linked article you've not read yet):
That appointment was made permanent after he orchestrated a $135-million US investment by arch rival Microsoft Corp., which provided Corel with enough cash to ride out a period of declining revenues while it worked to develop a new business strategy and products.
Maybe we should just make Microsoft Corp. give (not invest) $135-million US to all the major companies (an Open Source projects) in trouble due to the economy...they can afford it...and it certainly would be good PR!
The $169 "deal" has a referbed unit, however, I talked about the $199 deal which is for a new unit.
I'm sad that you had a bad experience, but that can just as easily happen when you get a unit from a local store...it's just a little easier to return.
A week is not a long time to get a replacement for a internet bought product...even with 3-day shipping, some companies still need a day or two at their end. I'm not making excuses for AmericanSatellite, it's just not that unusual.
My latest bad luck was with the Installation Sub-contractor. They did a terrible job, complained all the time, and charged me about $500 for the additional work they had to do... My previous two Installation experiences were wonderful... YMMV.
My problem is with the word 'support'. The author seems to realize that 'support' can mean different things, and isn't necessarily going to solve the problem the client is having.
Too many times we've paid for support from a vendor, only to discover that the problem(s) we've encountered are beyond their ability/desire to resolve...and we've been stuck with a useless product...
At least if the product was OpenSourced we'd have the option of subcontracting the fix to a thirdparty rather than having to dump it and find something else.
24x7 Tech Support just means they'll answer your call...not that they'll fix the problem.
I got my deal through American Satellite. I was there a few days ago for a friend, and it looks like that deal is no longer there...the comprable deal looks to be about $199 now...which still isn't bad as far as I'm concerned.
Click here to go straight to the appropriate page for Combo units. Note: They do have combo Series 2 TiVo units now, but I don't have any experience with them and their prices are higher.
Now that DirecTV has assumed control over combo TiVo/DirecTv Receivers, the monthly price is down to less than $6. And I believe it's free if you get their Total Choice programming...
As for the upfront costs...it only cost me $99 to get a Dual LNB Dish, DirecTiVo and Installation. Sounds good to me!
Have you called Sprint to tell them about the dead areas?
The more people that call and complain, the sooner they're likely to address the issue (if they can). After all, they've got no chance at making money when you're not on the phone.
It's the old addage: The squeeky wheel gets the oil.
I don't believe Fox would ever make and broadcast such a show.
For you to believe this only shows how gullible you are!
NASA hired people to fake the story that people believed there was a conspiracy to cover up the fact that they've not landed on the moon...hang on...now I'm confused...
Continuing it's efforts to blend various distinct elements of Open Source projects into unified implementations (See previous articles on GUIs and CLIs), RedHat will soon be providing a single application development & scripting language to replace C/C++, Perl, Python, Java, Forth, and Smalltalk.
The new language doesn't have a name yet, but you can be sure that few will like the idea, many will have an opinion, and noone will read the actual announcement.
James is a 100% Java Email server (SMTP, POP3, NNTP, and IMAP soon) that supports mail-server extensions via the Mailets API. I developed a Java implementation of the Bayesian rules discussed, so that they could be used in any configuration, but also provided a mailet wrapped implementation so that the filtering (or flagging) could be done at the server side.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that for WINE to work you'd still need the Windows DLL's etc. for the API mapping to work, which means that each user would actually need to have a license for Windows...which is all M$ should really care about...it's still getting people to buy their OS, even if they're not using it directly all the time...
Yes, it seems like a standard PS/2 connection, however, I've not been able to get both a keyboard and mouse to work at the same time using a splitter. I didn't try too hard, so that doesn't mean it's not possible.
There was no mention (that I recall) of having to train the software to recognize handwriting (or even train the user), so there's a good likelyhood that digital ink notes can be passed around easily...they would be much more useful that way...
This could also lead to an actual Digital (Ink) Signature...though M$ isn't exactly on the forefront of secure technologies, and there'd need to be ways to verify the signature was "hand entered" verses just pasted in.
Don't forget about the Compaq Concerto. I've still got mine...a wonderful machine that ran Pen Windows (an OEM'd extension of Windows v3.1), but it was possible to upgrade it to Win95 without too much trouble. (It was even a small feature of the movie Die Hard 3...remeber the machine controlling the bomb in the park?)
It is possible to jam cell phone signals (apparently it's even legal to do in Cananda...on your own property), however, that jamming would probably have a detrimental effect on the electronics of the plane itself...especially if it's true that cell phones can interferr with those electronics just with normal use.
My understanding, from news reports was that the Terrorists allowed the passengers to use their cell phones (maybe just by their own stupidity of not taking them away). But maybe I just heard that wrong, but they definately used their cell phones.

It's free with the Total Choice PREMIER package...

What is this, CNN's Headline news?..all the news, the same news, every half hour!

and I thought TV was "bad for you"...seems to have done wonders for *your* figure!
Thanks!
