  1. Excuse me but...... on Google Desktop Search Under Fire · · Score: 1

users could unwittingly allow people who follow them on the PCs, for example, to see sensitive information in e-mails they've exchanged. Wouldn't the same users leave cookies, history and temporary files that could be viewed by anyone following them? If so many people are ignorant of this fact, isn't the duty of the library or "cybercafe" to post a notice about this possibility and what to do to protect yourself?

  2. Several fictional stories have this as a premise on The War Of The Virtual Worlds · · Score: 1

I like the one where if your side had 10,000 casualties in the cyber war then 10,000 people had to report to the extermination camps. 100,000 or even million entities on a whole continent is a very sparse array. Doesn't sound very realistic.

I noticed some of the same similarities. Of course Pynchon is considered literature and Stephenson is popular fiction. I don't think he is as literary as he'd like to think, but he is entertaining. On the other hand, Pynchon is a bit hard to read and take much more concentration, but well worth it.

There are many databases out there that are just as vulnerable. Not much is being done to identify these risks. Cyber terrorist don't have to be rocket scientists, but they could be.

Microsoft was created by IBM and turned on it's master. The same could be said for Intel. Even though IBM was totally taken in by BillCo, IBM truly dropped the ball when the windows wars began in the late 80's. We still refer to PC's as IBM compatible even though they are Intel compatible. IBM thought that they could just make money off hardware, and when the PC junior failed they pulled back on both hardware and software. Bad move.

Object Rexx is kind of new and allows integration of object oriented programs on different platforms. It works on many platforms AIX, OS/2 (had to put it in), the other windows, linux and solaris. It is a very useful tool and is backwards compatible with REXX. People with a more mainframe background will choose it over perl (which is unix based in its syntax). It's also useful for talking to AS/400s. There are a few of those out there.
