There will always be a conflict between performance and noise. Notice how current 'quiet pcs' and laptops are on the low end.
basically two ways to do it.
- use a special low energy processor eg. My pocket pc is 400mhz but it's a 'new' 400mhz processor. and it performs in the heat and within the confined space of my PDA.
- underclock a performance processor
so my dear criticize-anything/.ers. look who's talking now. skype is making headlines. it's aslo integrated into HTC phones too. http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/3397.html
SLI's market is for 'extreeme' gamer$.
for ther avergage gamer it's not worth it to 'upgrade' later b/c by that time not only will the current high end be mid-range but also the you won't be able to get the new features of a new video card such as certain lighting effects or what have you.
Personally I'd like to believe that we're more intelligent than a virus cell, but all evidence seems against it.
individually yes, but collectively no.
if you want things to stay the way they are, yes, alot of our jobs can be replaced by robots. however, humans change, and new jobs will always be created as long as there are advancements.
if, for example, the US keeps whining about cheap labor, robots, computers (back in the day), AI, Google,...etc.
you can have your pre-industrial revolution economy/way of life if you can manage to isolate yourself in the wilderness. change is a way of life and so is competition between people, companies, and nations.
So instead of using "outsourced" labor, they remove jobs by having robots do them.... almost as bad.
if the japaneese didn't do this..then other nations would be better off b/c they would be more advanced.
the nations of the world compete for (and create) income by doing what they do best and working hard. anyone not on the scale of progress of advanced nations is doomed to sustainence levels (or even worse) b/c they wouldn't have anything useful to trade with. the economic system does not tolerate slackers (or unfortunate people for that matter).
Please don't argue against my point for the sake of arguing.
together: when they need to interact with each other
eg. TV+VCR MP3's + dowloading (PC) phone+digital audio player
separate: when they dont need to be together
eg. game console (usually for non-multiplayer and simple games) dvd player (not recorder) just a phone (if you want)
the consumer should have alot of choices so that he/she can choose what type of integration is needed.
I've thought about this alot. Forums represent the underlying thought process behind a particular (say a) wiki article.
Forums are discussions about the truth of something. The purpose of discussions is to find the truth.
Documents should represent the truth. And they are a quick reference and summary to the discussions.
for example, how many times did you wish the information you were looking for on an online forum were in a document format (a bit like an FAQ)? Then you wouldn't have to sift through lots of crap posts posted by people like HotGuy76 and LAN8.
Instead those forum members could put their thoughts into a form of a document while at the same time discuss a topic in a forum format. It's great for newbies to a subject to read the representative document. Experienced forum members (subject experts) modify this document as necessary.
In my world, to every topic there should be two elements: a discussion (forum/meeting/conversation/debate..) AND a document describing the topic (article/wiki/book..). The two can coexist.
email and IM; authenticate using them. this is happening already when you click "forgot password?" and the password is sent to your email. so, in effect your email password is like your only password. changing you email password is kind of like changing ALL your passwords.
why?
the only common communication channel on the internet is email and -a bit less so- IM.
eg.: each time you sign on to a site you can get a different password for each time you log in via email or IM.

live show watched by million of people. think superbowl, the world cup (caution: may contain soccer), all the NxA's games, george w speeches...this stuff would just clog the internet due to the internet's inherintly two-way nature. (does multicast solve this?)
now leave the internet for more interactive stuff: games, movie requests, chats,..ie. what it is currently. (blogs being ok)
you just have to wait for its arrival stateside.
BT, wifi, 1mp camera w/ flash, tri gsm/gprs, unique form factor, keypad, external display. http://www.bargainpda.com/default.asp?newsID=2327
WHAT MORE CAN YOU EXPECT? (except for more memory, it's got 32mb, maybe gps also?)
my email looks like a bulletin board! full of crap like "hey look at this", "hey what are you doing tonight?"... i want my email to be for meaningful correspondence.
this creates alot of email that one has to sort through.

..i agree.
the only thing tv is best for (now with fast net connections) is mass live broadcasts (something which the internet can't handle reliably (yet)).
it doesn't matter if seinfield is on at 7pm. it's just a recording. however sports for example are not.
have them both!
...works wonders for me. cn't hear shij with this combo.
...kind of like slashdot.

once they're up there there's no stopping how humans will use these 'asteroid' busters.
Geez! 3/4 of world oil is outside the middle east!
Only 10% of US oil imports are from the Gulf.
Signs like "Fish & Chip, $5" or "All player must register before going on ice" are so common here, it kind of makes me sick.
i guess you'll throw up as soon as you see http://www.engrish.com/
