    Well, they don't think they have jurisdiction over foreign individuals. But they do have jurisdiction over the company holding the data - and quite possibly over the physical server itself (if it is in an american data centre).

    Problem is - it's not his patent, but Creative's. Turns out that he independently reached the same algorithm as they did, and iD "licensed" it when they used EAX.

    Lewin is an officer in the Israel Defense Forces, having served in the country's military for more than four years.

    Service in the IDF, for men, is usually 3 years. Those in special forces might serve for 4, 5 years. Nothing really special to see here.

    Not so much "thinking otherwise" as "choosing somewhere not so controversial" (as there are no Palestinian claims to Tel Aviv). And also, until the Six Day War, Jerusalem was divided between Jordan and Israel (so not a nice place to put your new embassy).

    HDMI -> DVI conversors are trivial (in fact, Apple ships one of those with Mac Minis, instead of Mini DisplayPort -> DVI).

    With some versions of Visual Studio (and the Xbox 360 extensions for VS) Microsoft ships a static analysis tool, which is also very useful in finding potential problems.

    The Xbox 360 doesn't use DirectX, but rather a similar API. Also, one has to account for other hardware differences (e.g., unified memory).

    I'd hardly call it anti-competitive. Actually, the whole point of video game consoles is to provide developers a consistent platform, which would be impossible if users could install their own OS on it.

    Sony allows Linux to run on the PS3 to allow it to be taxed as a computer, not as a video game.

    In the last years we've seen lots of new courses like this in Brazil, although we have no real demand for so many "game professionals". And most game professionals hold BSc in computer science for programming and BA for the art part.

    And as the EA exec said, most of people with such degrees are not suitable for entry-level jobs. I'm myself a game programmer, and I can safely say that the programming skills of most guys that come from these schools is sub-par with the average CS Joe. The lack of theoretical education on computer science creates some problems to understand the larger picture sometimes.

    And don't get me started on game designers (there are courses focusing on that), as 99.999% of companies don't hire "game designers". Which don't stop us from getting 3, 4 resumés each week asking for a position as game designer.

    Coincidentaly, I've landed on my current job (network programming for games) by doing some code for open source IRCds.
