    We need the government to build the infrastructure once, and then lease capacity to any ISP.

    The government, or a commercial "last mile" provider, wires the area, then leases it out.

    There is the cable company providing broadband, and only the cable company. Now the company (Comcast) has stated that they want to charge an additional fee for privacy protection. Amazing what you can get away with when you do not have to worry about competition.

    Have the people who are running Firefox run it into the ground yet, i.e., has its marketshare fallen below the magical 10% threshold? Once a browser falls below 10% marketshare, its relevance diminishes greatly.

    On the contrary, I am generally opposed to the "mandatory options" plug-ins because of the problems (security and otherwise) they can cause in instances when they are not wanted or used. I most specifically am not saying the plug-ins should not be available for those who do want to use them. Indeed, the abuility to choose what plug-ins you want in your browser is one of the great benefits of plug-ins.

    In being concerned about security and other issues, I am looking at things beyond myself and this Kim Kardasian person you speak of.

    I don't use Sync and would prefer if it were a plug-in for those who do like to use it. The concept of mandatory options, i.e., plug-ins that are permanently plugged-in, runs counter to good security practices. When they are not used, they do little more than increase the attack surface.

    To me, it appeared that the main intent of the free Windows 10 upgrade was to rain massive data harvesting down upon the users of Windows. The unification of the codebase was a nice side benefit.

    Or Microsoft has found a way to back-port the data harvesting to Windows 7.

    Is this "innovation in education" or "innovation in data harvesting"? What student personal data do the companies involved harvest and store? How long are the data stored? How are the data used? What entities have access to the data, either directly or through purchase/lease agreements?

    Convenience over security still seems to be the rule at Microsoft.

    And Windows 10 was supposed to be the paradigm of security for Windows....

    If facebook continues to make its site user-unfriendly, I'll simply stop using facebook. I've already dropped back on my usage because I cannot view my timeline the way I want to view it, i.e., facebook keeps shoving things it considers to be "important" in my face, things I don't care about. If facebook starts doing the same thing with ads, I'll just move on.

    ...Zero shipping charge but you spend 30+ minutes (minimum) of your time plus gas going to pick it up. It might be cheaper depending on what you are having sent to you but the price isn't zero.

    I tend to be in the area at times, so it is convenient for me. As I mentioned to another poster, if it is not convenient, then the free in-store pickup is a non-starter.

    But I do agree with your point about not wanting to go to Walmart. They're not the best store in the area.... (and I'll leave it at that)

    Yeah, if there's no Walmart near you that you can get to conveniently, the free in-store pickup is a non-starter.

    The prices were usually quite good. What I liked was the ability to ship to to a local store (5 miles away) and pick it up there for zero shipping charge. Usually the pickup was next day, occasionally it was two day. My first order was same day, about 5 hours after I placed the order, it was ready for pickup. All for no shipping cost.

    That's so much better than Amazon's having to wait three days to a week before it is even shipped if you opt for free delivery. (I'm not talking about amazon prime's free shipping, I don't pay $100 per year for free shipping when the product price already has shipping charges baked in. So you amazon prime fanbois don't have to post how great prime is.)

    ... that the robo-callers appear to have unfettered access to it? How are they getting in to the phone network? Who is giving them access? At a minimum, access to the phone network needs to be secured so that source numbers cannot be spoofed.

    Currently, we cannot find the robo-callers because we allow them to hide. Why is that so? Why do we make it easy for them to hide?
