As for teaming up to keep their jobs... there'll always be work for human soldiers, and I'd think they'd be happy to relegate some of their places to better-armored proxies!
It may not be just the education system. Science in general is made to seem like magic through scientists' use of cryptic language and elitist behavior; it seems to the admittedly ignorant public is willing to accept the magic of science without question in part as a result of scientists' propensity to make their results incomprehensible to laypeople (even that word smacks of some sort of hierarchy, though).
Not that I disagree with you, though. Science in school certainly couldn't hurt.
Maybe that's just an indication of one too many Penny Arcades?
Just like when you try to hit Undo when you've written something down wrong with a pen on paper.
While the loss of Winamp is sad. Now, how can we go about losing RealPlayer and its disgustingly insidious spyware (which pisses everybody off and only works on the most clueless of users anyway)? Success would probably spawn parties all over the web. Too bad there's no AOL to ditch RealPlayer...
Can we vote them off the island soon?
Is there anywhere we can publicly apologize to the rest of the world for our fellow Americans' foolish behavior? I'd sign a mass letter of apology to the world that would have voted Kerry into office with an enormous margin.
The clock's ticking: how long until Iran is invaded, the environment completely trashed, our personal liberties destroyed, and our international relations damaged beyond repair?
I absolutely agree. I'm glad that Kerry had the strength and honor to concede - whether or not that seems fair or not - rather than drag this out like Gore did in 2000.
Now our best hope is to pray that GWB leaves some environment for us to clean up and doesn't alienate the entire world in the next 4 years.
Sure, but what's it saying that his son asked for an iMac in the first place? And did his son ask for a computer with eye-wrenching "skins" advertised on a site with a nerve-searing green background?
What will and won't make it? Drivers won't - we'll all become passengers.
No more "Drivers Wanted." It's people that will become obsolete if we ever perfect the safe-driving car.
You mean they're not? Between the search engine, Froogle, Google Blogs, GMail, Google Groups, Google News, and other features, I'd have thought they'd be on the top of the list for "digital empires".
Although Google has begun building its own "empire," it's only just IPO and maintains the highest-quality search engine & associated tools. I would liken Google to the early Greek city-states: a group of cities loosely joined that were highly influential in the most positive possible way. Even the Roman Empire copied the Greeks, and we still rely on tenets of ancient Greek culture.
Now if the Internet follows that pattern and is emulated after Google's style of working, only good things can happen.
The question now is, what will the effect be on online music consumers? Greater competition is always advantageous for buyers, driving the price down. If the major internet portals are building their own empires - monopolies? Is such a thing possible online? - it seems that the consumers will once again get screwed as our choices decrease and prices increase.
Whether quality or no, the major thing AMD has going for it is price. For those of us non-gamers, who are fine with a pretty darn good machine, even sacrificing a little quality for a major difference in cost is worth it.
If elected, how would you deal with a Senate and House of Representatives made up almost entirely of Republicans and Democrats? Wouldn't that put a major crimp in the sweeping changes promised as the US's first Libertarian president?
...Hate to nitpick, but honestly. Guess we haven't gotten as far as we thought.
They didn't mention the best time-waster of all - Slashdot!
How many are reading this from work?
So the consensus is, the passenger will scream if you're gonna die, but a person on the phone will only hear your screams.
Nice.
Gee, life's so hard when things don't display right on your Web TV! ...seriously. Sheesh.

C. Unless there's some way for them to burn ads right into our retinas, after which they won't need to use computers.
The real victim is the boss who hires the cat with a PhD only to find the cat ruling everything a week later.

Windows itself isn't too bad if you are behind a firewall. That's exactly the issue; we shouldn't need a firewall just to use Windows.

The sad thing is, people respect Kerry so much for conceding... now if only we could have respected him enough to elect him.

It'll only fit into Sean's lifestyle if he likes colors that went out 30 years ago... and if he doesn't ever want to mod his machine...

Considering his history, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to *pay* people to take Hal, rather than the other way around.
