No no no...as long as they strictly follow the "rules" they can do anything else that isn't specified without fear of recourse. There are some benefits to having a laundry list of stupid rules and regulations...you can easily play dumb about anything else./sarcasm
Why mark that as Sarcasm? the whole point of law enforcement is that you are ok as long as you play by the rules. If your business model is clearly outside the rules then expect them to come down hard on you. It doesn't matter how much of a scumbag you are or your business practises are as long as they are within the rules. The current laws are a mess, but it would be a far bigger mess if people got to pick and choose which laws they would follow.
Who said anything about getting rid of Due Process. A million other careers have due process and DON'T have tenure. and what the fuck has tenure got to do with the constitution? tenure is a completely insane concept for a career where you MUST be performing regardless of how long you have been at the job. Teachers of course should have due process, i.e. they perform to a reasonable level or their arses are fired, not allowing them to drag their careers out for years on end while they continue to underperform.
You cannot legislate or litigate success in life for people who do not accept any responsibility to themselves.
That is true and is an excellent argument for getting rid of tenure. Teachers should not have protection in place that removes responsibility from themselves to perform.
Also, I have my suspicions this could also lead to more damage to unions. Unions -- on occasion -- can benefit society.
I think this is a clear cut case where Unions are actually doing the damage to society and shows a need to reduce the power they have. The unions have really overstepped the bounds of reasonableness here, though it is also the governments fault for allowing this to happen in the first place, Unions are designed to be greedy selfish institutions whose goals are to benefit there members regardless of the consequences to others or the society in general.
You honestly believe they could find less-competent teachers? the current system is an abomination that has come from unions having too much power and the system being too weak to fight back when they have demanded insane conditions. Tenure should NOT exist full stop. The primary concern of the education system should be the students and the current system sacrifices the students in favour of the teachers. Now it isn't all teachers that are bad, but not being able to get rid of the rotten apples makes the whole batch stink.
You need to get out more. While the Fujitsu and Panasonic ones can be tough to find, Sony PC's and laptops are in just about every major electronics store.
True. But Apple doesn't use standard components except the HDD. And even they are phased out for custom SSDs. All Macs are designed and engineered by Apple in Cupertino, incl the logic board. Quanta and Foxconn assemble them. They don't create them.
HP PCs on the other hand uses standard components like everyone else.
The only non standard part Apple use is the motherboard, everything else is pretty much standard parts, memory, HDD, CPU's, GPU's etc are all stock standard parts available in whatever flavour machine you want Apple or not.
15 years ago, nobody "needed" broadband. Dialup was, "good enough."
That really isn't true. Dialup was all we had but it certainly was slow as all fuck and EVERYBODY hated it. I had plenty of friends at the time that invested thousands of dollars to have ISDN to their house because dialup sucked that much.
yep, I don't play with handheld consoles but the 3DS sales have been exceptionally good, perhaps the only highlight for the console gaming industry last year. If apple is crushing anyone it so far isn't Nintendo's handheld business. You could argue they are part of the reason the POS Wii U is failing but I think that is more to do with price and Nintendo's confusion over who they are trying to target with that device.
The steam client isn't just a download manager though. It is a messenger, includes functionality to scan your system and includes a store interface as well as a pile of other crap. If it was just another download manager it would be irritating but partly acceptable. Instead it is an unstable, intrusive pile of shit that they have jammed so much into that it is offensive.
Interesting. I might actually have a look at steam again. previously it always required you to install the steam client to download a game. If that isn't required anymore then I might actually use them again.
Really as the other poster said. You should have slipstreamed the updates into the install long ago. There is no reason for a new install of XP to be time consuming, especially important if you do a lot of installs.
This is pretty normal in Australia, Interior of Australia has a long history of 4+ year droughts every decade or 2 then we get summers with insane levels of rainfall flooding everything, Australia rarely does things by the averages, it is usually one extreme or the other. I grew up on Australian farm. I vividly remember the long drought in the 80's and my father refers to that as a moderate one compared to what he had in the 60's and 70's. We have photos of our farm as a dust bowl in 30's as well, something my father hasn't even seen it get as bad as.
A HUD shows information directly related to the task of flying and a pilot has to be trained to utilise the hud without getting excessively distracted.
probably because it is the WRONG question. The question is why should they support it? They already support the industry wide adopted standard, the community is asking them to support something that is not industry accepted at this point.
MP4 is the industry standard, by choosing a non standard format they are knowingly limiting the amount of people that can view the format, really it is a braindead decision, information sharing shouldn't be about ideology. We have enough shit forced on people by governments already.
since were comparing the entire apple product line to one of microsofts, I think its only fair to toss in the second most popular MS product line out there and see how those numbers add up
Does the Xbox have a word processor? A spreadsheet? A presentation creator? Does it have any photo manipulation apps or drawing programs with layers and filters? Are there any movie editors, effects composition apps? Does it have any music creation software available for it?
that is the fucked up patent system for you. It is trademarks that you have to protect from day one otherwise you can't cry foul later. It is definitely horribly trollish behaviour from BU and is yet another perfect example of the patent system needing reform. Needs to be a far tighter timeframe in which a patent owner must make known their intention to assert patent infringement otherwise they should lose the right to make such a claim.
they don't have to. But they should also realise the price of that is it should not be used in any sort of internet connected way when no more security patches are coming.

Today's Apple is also nothing like the Apple of 80's. It is arguably undergone even more drastic changes than HP.

Yep, I don't get this article at all. This is not a sign of reform or relief. It is business as usually in patent cases.

The DS line (aka 3DS) is actually selling at amazing levels still.

Seriously people still pay for porn? with so much freely available I gotta ask Why?

Interior Australia seems to be suffering a terrible drought while Northern Australia is being inundated.

Perhaps you should try something original... like reading the actual article.

Does an Ipod?
then why only compare windows PCs? what about all the embedded devices in cars, atm's, even the xbox runs a windows kernel.
pagefile? does it have protection to ensure it is never written to the pagefile?
