Well, Dexter Holland (singer of Offspring) was majoring in Bionuclear Engineering at USC, and then decided to start a punk band...seems to me that the options are limitless as far as what degree goes well with another...
but the difference is at least the Windows OS has common libraries to draw from...so Upgrading and installing isn't nearly the problem it can be for *nix. But maybe I am doing something wrong with my distro...who knows.
That is one of the things that gives Linux somewhat of a setback is the lack of common ground behind each distro. I currently use Mandrake 10.1, but I also have been a Red Hat user, but gave up on Fedora Core 3. Granted, their has been a standards committee created, but there has to be more common ground for the distro's before Linux can really challenge MS on the Desktop. Just my opinion though...
I have the impending feeling that this browser will try to give Firefox a black eye. People will say "this is based off of Firefox" and then when the IE rendering engine lets in spyware and malware people will then say "Firefox is a piece of crap!!" when in their ignorance it was the IE engines fault the whole time. Notice that there isn't that much concentration on IE's part of this browser when most articles are run on it, or when people talk about it...but as with anything AOL touches, you can be rest assured that it will follow the same path of other software that has been acquired by them.
The sad thing is I really liked Red Hat 8,9 and FC 1,2. I really dislike FC3. Nothing worked properly. I had so many problems with it that I switched to Mandrake 10.1. I really tried to be a loyal Red Hat user, but IMO Fedora Core has become worse with each release, but again that is only my opinion. I'm hoping that FC 4 will be better than 3...maybe I'll switch back if it is.
I guess with a lot of people still using IE 6 without XP SP2, then they don't know that Active X has been exploited...but that still leaves the issue of how they couldn't know that their dial up AOL connection is extremely slow, or how they've reached their Comcast cap limit...
I've been using the 1.9.7x builds for a couple months now, and I was REALLY impressed with those. I personally think that OO.o handles Microsoft files very well, but again to each their own. The 2.0 series is definitely going to be a step up for the Open Office suite.
I understand the whole issue with "Piracy" but what I don't understand is why they are suing for large quantities of money. Sure they can make an example out of someone, but does that really stem the tide...or does it stir the pot. Think back to when the RIAA sued the dead woman...here's the link for it (if it still works)

Ever since the 80's it seems that our country has always been very adept at blaming others for our own mistakes. It is really a sad commentary on us as a society. But, remember it is always easier to blame someone else for the state that you are in than to take responsibility and make your situation better...at least that is what I learned from watching Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, Donahue, and Oprah (back when she too was in the talk show trash bin) oh, and I can't forget Geraldo...
well, I guess that it is apparent that not everyone who reads slashdot is intelligent after all. Anyone else suprised at how this person got a score of 3, but yet I got a -1?
That's why my sig says what it says.
Forget the mainstream...support Indies. Sooner or later the Mainstream world has to recognize the DRM and other copy-protection is going to get real old...real fast. Besides.mp3 is becoming an inferior format anyway. I personally feel that Ogg Vorbis has much more to offer.
I love the MS guys statement that MS recent purchase of an Anti-Virus company helps prove that MS is more secure than Linux, I mean really...if Symantec (which is one of the most widely used AV software makers) has flaws in it's virus detection software, then how can MS say that theirs is any more secure?
Also, RedHat and Suse didn't release that many security updates for their OS releases, simply due to the fact that, and here's a new one, there aren't that many security holes to plug.
I guess I mainly grow tired of the MS vs. Linux arguments, mainly for the fact that it almost sounds like a bunch of political adds "well Linux is bad because they kill poor defenseless animals to make their software"...see what I'm saying? Anyone else feel that way?
I charge businesses a higher rate than I do home users. Businesses I usually charge 65 dollars an hour. Home Users about 20-25 dollars an hour.
I don't charge immediate family members anything.
If I truly had my way though, I would charge
*puts pinky to corner of mouth* 1 MILLION Dollars...muahhahahahaha
How interesting that even in the early 1980's when Bill G. said that Macintosh was the leading innovator for home computing, how they are now trying to play catch up with them. The same can be said for a lot of other companies. Remember that Sony just admitted their error in the.mp3 player arena, and I am sure that a lot of companies are kicking themselves for not churning out the portable music player idea sooner as well.
That is a really tough call to make, because so many distro's can be used for many different things. As for me personally, I like Fedora Core 3 as my desktop, but I use Mandrake 10.1 as my web/file/print server.
It really just depends on what you want to get. If you like total control, go with Gentoo. If you like stability, go with Debian. If you like nice GUI's go with Fedora, or Mandrake.
It really just depends on what you want, which is what I love about linux, and why I'll use it from now on.
The Helix Player is what RealPlayer is based off of, and Helix supports it, so it is nice to know that RealPlayer does too. In Linux, they are both really one in the same. Except RealPlayer can obviously play more file types, such as.mp3, and Real Audio and Real Video.
one thing that I think that companies like apple have forgotten about is that the 1992 home audio recording act, makes it legal for anyone to make copies of property that they own, with that property being Music, in this case. That law was set into effect over 12 years ago, however now it is illegal all of a sudden.
So with this law already being in effect for the last 12 years, it really makes me scratch my head at the DRM policy.

somebody is a little angry...look America is like the BASF company. We don't make the technology...we steal it and make it better :)

Agreed...with "greed" being the keyword here.

...lol Where exactly was the scope trying to go?

I got the CLAP from the internet myself...
I totally agree with you. You can make a disc into anything that you want...but only what they tell you that you can make...
You really don't get it do you?

What are you talking about? IE is already optimized to run as slowly as possible...lol
Haha! Amen brother!
