you spend $$ sending humans out to the site rather than just doing task 'x' from your network.

So banks like yours and Wells Fargo are sacrificing security for a little extra profit.

I'm sure there are plenty of crackers who will be perfectly happy to do "task 'x, y & z'" on your web-enabled, Windows machines.

Tell me, will I need to pay a $20 convenience fee to Wells Fargo everytime someone breaks into a Wells Fargo ATM and steals my account information?

Oracle made Redhat Enterprise a supported platform, and then it's only supported on RedHat AS/ES (Server versions), not on WS (Workstation version).

This is very different then saying that Oracle considers "Linux" a supported platform. Oracle on Debian or Suse is not well supported by Oracle at all.

And consider that Solaris has actually been cheaper then RHEL in many respects, and you'll see more reasons why Solaris is a common platform for Oracle in a large installation.

Maybe this has changed since 9i. If so, please feel free to enlighten me.

We are all using SuSE 9.2 and whenever someone goes on google maps, it can no longer make http request anywhere. It litterally kill our net connection.

This problem is not caused by Google's website or a webbrowser. It's doubtful that either could disable your network.

This is most likely a problem at a lower level in your network -- the router, firewall or a http proxy. From your description, my guess is it's a problem with your http proxy.

Note that a 'net connection' is different then just a 'http request'. HTTP is just one protocol which can go over your net connection. Other protocols include FTP, instant messenger protocols (I bet IM clients like AIM and Yahoo IM still work).

As for fixing that, you need to get a netadmin who has a good idea of how networks work.
