They're using the codenames to make a better distinction between the upgrades. "Mac OS X" has become a brand like "Pentium" and if they just market it as 10.3 to 10.4, most people would consider it a minor update rather than an entire overhaul.

  4. Re:Cheap updates? on Mac OS X Tiger Goes Gold · · Score: 1

That was for 10.0 to 10.1 because it was feature incomplete and released 5 months later. 10.1 to 10.2 and 10.2 to 10.3 were full price.

  10. Good for him... on Shatner Aims for Real 'Star Trek' · · Score: 0, Offtopic

After a crappy series of Priceline commericals, a terrible new law/drama show coming out and a horrible album being released, I am finally glad to see something for Shatner starting to take off.

  11. Life Extension on Ray Kurzweil On IT And The Future of Technology · · Score: 1

is not a good thing. People don't relize that overpopulation will become a problem already without the introduction of "life extension" technologies. Overpopulation WILL happen and it will make living in the world difficult. Lack of of enough natural resources will introduce more problems then can even be predicted at this point. Greed will prevail, with the most wealthy getting first access to the more scarce resources.

Try an Apple Store. It would be a better experience and you would get your questions answered by staff trained by Apple instead of 14 year olds hanging out in forums.

Why not look for a used Apple system on eBay? Do you need a brand new computer? You can get a flat-panel iMac with a lot of additional software for around $500.
