Where's the DEC Rainbow? Closed system, so that hurt when it came time to upgrade, but it did about everything at the time with its two processors (Z80 and a 8086 as I recall). CPM then later came MS-DOS for it. Mine had four floppies. Still have that sucker somewhere--probably as a door stop in the back room. Just can't bear throwing it away.
It's not as bad since the 'Do not call list', came into being, but it still bugs me. My approach was to set up vgetty to intercept all 'unknown' incoming calls. Scripted it to ignore any normal calls so I could pick them up or my answering machine would. Vgetty put the unknown caller through a maze of, "If you wish to speak with so-and-so, press 1, if you...". It ended up by hanging up after a long game of pushing numbers, but I don't recall anyone wanting to play the game.
Probably wouldn't be motivated to set this up today because 'Do not call', takes out most of the aggravation. If you're getting bugged excessively though, it's worth a thought and it's free if you have a voice modem that works with vgetty (and use Linux).
My thought has been that I don't want to cut into a healthy eye. Glasses do the job without that invasion. I'd love to see 20-20 without my coke bottle external lenses but since they work fine, I don't want to take any risk, however slight. If I live long enough to get cataracts then I will have the corrections made.
Maybe someone might benefit from my solutions to my various skin problems encountered over the years. Warts--CP Nitric Acid until it hurts, then soaked in a baking soda solution until it stops fizzing. Unknown reason lesions--soaked in a 50/50 mixture of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide/ 91% Isopropyl Alcohol until you get bored. These things have worked for me in the past. Maybe trying them next time will kill me, so if you want to try them consider that possibility (for you, not me).
Really, I believe that too many of the cures of old are considered considered as folk medicine today and discounted without further trial. If you can't get it via Rx, then it isn't valid. Bullspit! Sure no story in homebrewed solutions.
In areas where the human population is taking a beating because of the pests, use the best method we have available to kill them. Right now these particular pests seem most susceptible to DDT. So use it in those selected areas. The mosquitoes targeted will most likely develop resistance to it but in the meanwhile it will give us some time. As in the warfare against bacteria, our antibiotics are constantly being defeated as we are forced to develop newer methods. But to give up a currently viable alternative to giving up on DDT seems excessive. I'd guess that we're holding it back as a last ditch offensive, but are not at that point now in some areas of the world?
If you wish to be widely publicized you must accept the standards of the language in which you wish to be publicized. Not a problem with friends as we communicate back and forth using grammar and spelling that is without much thought. Trying to put the very same thoughts out into the real world does usually require some honing though. Don't seem to see much of this honing done by the best minds in the software world though.
I agree--the audience must be addressed correctly.
Guess the problem here is the volatility of our current archival methods. The 'best' methods we have today of storing significant amounts of data will be unrecoverable after thousands of years. Chiseling basic information into stones may survive.
Gave me a grin to see this as it makes the fact that BB gave my credit card number to Entertainment Weekly who promptly signed me up for a subscription, less pain. Hate them both now and won't ever entertain their entrances again, unless wearing a blue shirt of course.
I'll bite too. I have four main machines running XP, one is XP on an AMD 64 3500+, two XPs on later P4's, and an XP 64 on an Athlon 64 X2 4400+, though these are intermittent. The ones running constantly consist of a P4 (SUSE 9.3), and and Ath 64 X2 3800 running SUSE (10.0), as web and mail servers. Additional intermittent machines are a Windows 9800 SE box, and three older Red Hat boxes used for backup. In the active network are two occasional laptops running SUSE 9.3 and Windows XP. It's a jumble of stuff that makes sense to me, somehow. What fries my butt is moving files from one to the other. Security has so dominated my installation that I find it easiest to dump files into a PCI card when I want to transfer info. I was burned once and since then have taken draconian measures to keep their interfaces minimal. Some people collect old cars in their back yards. I get kicks out of adding older machines in my room. They're not dead, so I use them. I keep one machine close to the current affordable edge, and the rest slide back into lessor demands. It's fun and cheaper than collecting old cars in the back yard.
I'm disturbed the Socket 939 has had such a relatively short life. It has served me well when upping from a 64 3500+ to a 64 X2 4400+, but I was expecting more time before another significant socket change. Am I the only one disappointed in this rather fast change to an even newer socket MB?
Getting nailed for something that is thechnically incorrect is one thing but to get nailed for a trivial political thing is another. On this particular forum we are for the most part technically inclined. The politics should be such a minor issue as to not influence the mod points. What I said was probably reasonably intrepretadted as political in nature but your response in exercising negative points seems uber excessive. Simply tell me to piss off--that would have sufficed.
With your Canon 20d, once the moon came up, why didn't you just use the flash?

How about letting the crew of Serenity, who have never met aliens, meet up with the crew of StarTrek? What a neat new thread this could take.
Baloney. She has had to have been put through a truckload of shit to go this far.
Losing this much history of this feat is downright criminal!
You're too naive. Next will be jet packs stuffed into the rearward orifaces, allowing another second off of the natural capability.

Though we've seen this information posted multiple places on the www, considering the nature of this beast how can anyone know if it's factual or not?
Asshole. (Kidding, just kidding.)
Envious actually.
Doubtful if it could relieve me of the constant scans to my system or the spam. But if it could, somehow, I'd jump on it like a dog on a bone.
Maybe just to get our knickers in a knot.

Doesn't matter to me how you all feel. I loved the first. I look forward to the next.

Is it possible that I'm scoring survival points here for being a cancer surviver?

There comes a time when frustration wins and the attitude of, "Do something, anything, even if it's wrong." takes hold. I'm about there.
Charging is worth a try.
Seems like with games it's the other way around.
I like your stance. If I had mod points you'd get one.
