I might be over simplifying things, but kids need to learn about cause and effect, this is part of growing up.
I guess not getting a bad credit rating has replaced the 'don't get a police record it will make it hard to get a job' mantra of my youth. Maybe not replaced, joined, perhaps.
That aside, I was initially shocked to hear some people get charged to recieve messages, but voice mail has been like that for years on my phone.
"Explainer is awesome.. it actually addresses the questions that most paper's gloss over (like that story about Insulin usage in the olympics.. Explainer was the only place I'd seen that actually explained *why* athletes would even want to use insulin)"
um, this is what search engines are for, finding stuff out. Why wait for some editor to decide to run a story ?...that said, I will be looking at Slate, based on yours and others positive comments. thanks.
Surely the real use for these devices is to tell you when there isn't any WiFi, if there is WiFi you have to get out the laptop to find out if you can connect.
If there is no WiFi, you can keep moving.
These devices have a very sort useful life as a technoogy, as WiFi and the like becomes more ubiquitous, these devices will be useless.
I actually think censorship is common here in oz. We don't have an adult computer game rating for one thing....but at the end of the day, I think bigpond did the right thing for the right reasons.
Somewhere there is a sub-editor and an editor saying "I thought *you* checked it!" to each other, while fixing up their CVs.
Why is the OS important ? Surely it's just the usefulness features, or coolness of the phone which matters.
Using linux is just manufacurers saving licensing costs of Sybian, but how does this affect consumers; the savings won't be passed on.
Personally, while they are still refered to as phones, and tarrifs are kept confusing and basically the same, the ubiquitous mobility revolution cannot start.
I largely agree with this post. I'm surprised EA haven't developed secure online software distribution technologies. Perhaps they have, I didn't check.
It's the future, once enough people have broadband, this is how software will be sold, and how licenses will be managed.
Inspiration
Talent
Seriously, learning technique is one thing, but learning to be artistic, I'm not so sure it can be taught/learnt.
I'd agree programming has elements of creativity, but it's not the same as being artistic.
I suspect practice is what will draw latent talent out.
People hoard too muchb stuff anyway.
I have had several data bereavements and like most things time heals.
I cannot even remember what I lost tbh.
For stuff which does need to be kept, someone should invent a black-box recorder for PC data.
I know there are several online archiving services, but what happens if they go bust ?

"I'm not sure why kids need celphones. I never needed one and kept in touch with friends just fine."
My grandad used to say similar things about computers and cars. He was a bit of a ludite.
"I had to "work-off" my long distance phone bills in the BBS days..."
Too right mate, and that was before British Telecom had 'Best Friend' number etc.
The upgrade to 9600 would have saved me a fortune, but I just spent the same time online, just quicker.
heady days.

What's amazing about a small, greedy and largley zenaphobic nation wanting a conservative leader who has the favour of the King of thge World ?
Labour might have had a chance, but they were too scared of losing votes to upset anyone.
We have the FTA *becuase* labour supported it, australia will pay for that mistake.
No it doesn't bother me.
If you know what SPs are, why rename them.
Try not to let these little things upset you.
Not two hours, unless you on dial up. (haha pfft)
Same for Debian, Redhat and OSX, install from CD and you'll need to spend time patching.
sounds like trogan being propagated by a virus.
"Real users want..."
OK, this is where I stop reading.

Hang on, isn't Linux developed for love ?
Surely love is a better motivator than money.

What is this 'Offline' you speak of ?
"The US has sunk pretty low in recent years, but still has a far way to go to reach the depravity of Chinese or North Korean societies."
Does the US still execute people ?
Death Penalty for children ?
For mentally handicaped people ?
At least they tell everyone (everyone not in China). I like their bluntness.
Millions ?
pffft, who cares.
thay have a shit hot computer (can't play otherwise) but no net connection ?

If the strip is 3 inches wide and the vibration is +/- one inch, is it fair to describe it as a tiny vibration; it's 30%.
