Because of Microsoft's stranglehold on the market, they are able to rope companies into upgrade contracts that extort payment for new versions. Under these contracts, failure to upgrade results in higher costs for later upgrades. So much higher that it makes more sense to upgrade now rather than later. Could any other company pull these sorts of strong-arm tactics? Of course not! In any other business, you'd find a competitor and switch to them (or at least use it as a negotiation tactic).
This is just some sensations B.S., this guy is trying to get his 15 mins of fame. It's like Y2k all over again, 'cept in a lesser form.
Don't believe the hype.
a.k.a. another way for game companies to milk more cash from would-be buyers. Definitely much easier than releases a whole new game. An expansion can be put together in a matter of 6-7 months.
I guess it has it's good and bad sides. Sorry, don't mean to be negative. I'm sure it's a decent expansion.
I can smell an over-reaction brewing. This is just the sort of incident that can force the adoption of stringent laws. The thing is, the machine at Berkeley were the ones victimised but it seems to me that this type of information will be sought after regardless of where it is. What I mean is, although Berkeley should have hardened the machine against an intrustion they were victimised because of the info they had, not who they were. The government servers are going to be targeted too.
If they need to do a whole study into neuroscience to figure out that Britney Spears face helps sell more cokes than some other, this sounds like a big waste of money to me.
All I can say is Duh!
Adn it was worth the download. All I can say is I was LMAO.
There should be more projects like this. Anyone see that show on MTV2 called Video Mods? They take video characters and put them into music videos.
I have to wonder how long until a mod-chip that will work with this newer, smaller system comes out.
I estimate between 2-3 months, could be sooner. Those pirated are pretty efficent.
LOL
I think the choice is clear regardless of this article. Intel announced last week that they are giving up a 4Ghz Pentium CPU, and even the 3.8 Ghz model is very scarce.
Where as AMD's Athlon 3800+ can be easily found, With the announcement of the 4000+ CPU, AMD has a clear lead over intel, and will until the Dual-CPU wars begin sometime next year. I think now is a good time to own AMD stock. Their marketshare is going to slowly increase over the next 12 months.
I'm not taking sides here, just stating the obvious.
Look, the problem with these companies is that they are concentrating too much on physical design and low cost. They don't realize the fact that the reason why many people buy iPods, even if they cost more, is that they are much easier to install and use than their products. An iPod (on macs at least), there is only one step: Plug into firewire port. Thats it. No need to mess with drivers or install difficult mp3 players on your PC.

Not to change the topic, but I have a different method for curbing spam. I just change email addresses every 6-9 months. Works like a charm. When the ratio of spam versus real email starts shifting, I know it's time for a change.
That and just don't post your email address all over the internet. Works for me.
I'm sure they have like a bi-focal version of it for the seeing impared. Now that I think of it, I'll probably need one myself.
Getting old here. It's my b-day!
This is a $400 heads-up-display for those looking for bargain-basement augmented reality or just an at-hand excuse on why you never, ever get laid.
The geeks become geekier!
It's popular among Korean kids also. It's basically an online Bomberman (Nexon bought the rights to Bomberman from Hudsonsoft AFAIK) that tracks your win/lose stats and rewards you with the game's currency for good play. You can use the currency to buy different accessories/clothes for your character.
The human resource costs of supporting Linux systems that aren't directly supported by a major hardware vendor can be high. What experiences have people had with vendors that really, truly, officially support Linux? I haven't seen too much direct support from the likes of Dell or Toshiba, especially when it comes to Laptops.

Who will get the fixes out first. If I was a betting man, I would say Mozilla.
