Interestingly, theocrats also think that a world unified under one set of beliefs would solve everything. But what you believe is different and more important and special, right?

    An interesting idea, but...
    • The big telcos already have their fingers in Washington's pockets. If net neutrality is to fail in congress, what make you think net socialism would ever pass?
    • The government has little incentive to keep up with customer demands, since we HAVE to pay taxes. Some broadband companies (admittedly not all) have to compete with another provider.
    • How sure can we be that our internet usage wouldn't be monitored to catch terrorists/communists/pedophiles/witches? A private company can still be forced to keep and release records, but that's much harder for Big Brother to get away with than keeping records of its own service.
Not to say that your idea isn't good... I would love it if I got "free" broadband anywhere in the country, and would gladly pay the taxes.

I don't really have a problem with "criminal" or "sociopathic" (since I break laws sometimes and have friends with antisocial personality disorder), but eugenics scares me, and random dipshit eugenics scares me even more. This sort of artificial selection will only yeild an agoraphobic population.

I use Wine on my computer a lot, and it seems to work pretty well. I think eventually, more developers will start releasing their products for Linux as well as Windows. For instance, as a mechanical engineer, I use Pro/ENGINEER extensively, and it's out for Linux as well as Windows.
