On the continent countries, at least the Germanic ones, they have a wonderful cultural tradition of keeping quaint little things running indefinitely. Go to a Dutch or German town square and you'll see lots and lots of those little old bikes with WWII styling chugging along fast. They're pretty frugal, eco-friendly folks those Europeans.
I really don't get it. How is staying standing on a segway better than walking? I remember, long ago, in woodworking classes in highschool that we couldn't bare to stand still for 45 minutes whereas in physical education we happily ran the whole hour.
1) How is it better than WinXP? I mean other than the even-more-childish themes. 2) More importantly, how is it better than Ubuntu, which I switched to a few months ago?
If captcha is using humans, wasn't there an anti-captcha thing spammers were doing by having people answer some captcha to get into some free porn that is then used (their answer) to get the bots through legitimate sites the spammers wanted to get into?
I think it might be useless. What is there in the pictures to tell other than: child, woman, man... etc, and such generic terms. I mean, for real, we really don't know anything about those pictures.
Hi. I did that, and wished I had stayed with dapper. I didn't really have any problems that needed fixing, and I had gotten myself a dapper desktop that was just perfect for my needs. I guess from now on I'll just be 'conservative' in terms of upgrades. No big deal though, just a note to myself for the future.:-)
I agree. I used to use ubuntu amd64, wresteled with it for a month or two, then just couldn't be bothered anymore and switched to the i386 (k7) version that I'm running now.
This whole genes talk is too common now to notice, but when you step back, and think about it, it really, really boggles the mind. All these creatures came from these little tiny strings playing with each other.
If the user really wants a great "out-of-the-box" OS installation I don't think ubuntu followed by automatix can be topped. I tried it the other day, and I'm still amazed at how easy, fast, yet great desktop installation it was. I then followed that with "sudo aptitude kubuntu-desktop" and it installed KDE. After that, there's nothing I'd ever come across that comes near the ease of installing and removing software on a connected debian (ubuntu) system.
I'll actually put it this way; even if I were offered $500 to dump my ubuntu system and go back to Windows or OSX, I'd refuse.
This video was posted 3 weeks ago and only had a 100 odd ratings, even after appearing on slashdot. Meanwhile a regular skanky youtube teen could get thousands within a hours. Even you guys will probably move on to the next story in a few minutes. I think the government is safe.
Those who protect all of yours are dispensible nobodies, they don't show up in the bank accounts of those in charge of the military-industrial complex contracts.
Call me a troll or a flamebait, but, seriously, what about just learning English or French and just working with that? What's the need for a native language version of everything? See how well India is advantaged with its population of English speakers.
Someone on usenet said ZFS is a BSD thing only so it'll work on the BSDs such as solaris and osx, but the linux kernel is incomparible. Is this true? Thanks.
Could such technology in the future be used to control a group or a population? There's so much potential for misuse, I tell ya, in keeping the people (workers, potential dissidents... etc) cheerful and oblivious to depressing circumstances and reasons for complaint.
What's wrong with Lyx? What problems did you have with it? I've used it for a few hours and don't see what could be wrong with it to get that strong a reaction from you. I just moved on to raw LaTeX because I already knew it and that was my preference.
I personally use Kile. And I do write it all by hand. What I meant was, Lyx seems easy enough that you could get someone started on it in perhaps no time, with just a little "10 minute tutorial". I think lyx is an OK stepping stone to get someone later on onto using raw LaTeX if they're curious. Failing that, I know someone on usenet who says he's been using lyx for 5 years and even wrote two books with it, and is quite happy.
This "Copyright (C) [2006] [unknown]" alone deserve a lawsuit and a buttkicking too, imho.

What you do then is quite simple; you'll have to re-buy your media files, and I presume that's a reason why the companies seem to like it so much .

Why don't they just use a small unix? Or even forth for that matter?

I would say the "editorializing" on Fox News is far too obvious.
Nah. Foreskin is vestigial. Tell me, don't you ever shave your face and clip your nails?
And here it is just like you said "that's my boy... ouch!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EJFJb77Jdw

Can I upgrade from my dapper to this with apt-get without having to do a reinstall? Thanks.

Haha. Horrific!
