Interesting and quite an achievement but how useful is it in 'real life' (ie. military use) when weather conditions may not be so ideal as they presumably are in arizona? Can it handle high winds and storms or will it fall apart?
Also wont it present a fetching target for those 'unfriendlies' the military would be watching or does it fly too high?
Good old fashioned internet forums or message boards provide all the online social interaction and information you could ever need in whatever field of interest you choose (there's a forum out there for every conceivable subject) without sacrificing your privacy (as long as you are careful). Many have social network type functions as well.
Of course most of them will have google ads so google could still cobble together all your online actvity..
Is talking on the phone really a single task? Is cooking? Surely each of those is made up of countless sub-tasks even if you don't consciously think about them.
Their concept of 'communication', let alone their culture and motivations, will likely be be so wildly different than ours as to be beyond our ability to even conceive of it.
Alien communication was covered in an episode of red dwarf and involved breaking two legs, using all the toilet paper and finishing a jigsaw puzzle just to say "hello"..
The low hanging fruit.. there's bound to be enough nutters who are not tech savvy enough to cover their tracks online (or offline) or even some who don't care.
They didn't clear the area, and there's no reason to believe they brought in a robot, given that they shot it in earshot of the rest of the travellers. If they did think it was a bomb, they were obviously keen to do as much damage with it as possible.
How do you know they didn't clear the area? Its standard procedure to clear the area (they don't need to evacuate the whole city!) and those gunshots the bomb squad robot makes are actually rather loud.
They're almost human

You may also find an inventory or asset management system useful to make sense of what you have, if its relevant in your circumstances. There is web based or software like http://www.ocsinventory-ng.org/ http://www.tracmor.com/ http://www.pukkapanel.com/ and others mentioned here.. http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/open-source-it-inventory-control-systems.html or if you use RT there is http://requesttracker.wikia.com/wiki/AssetTracker
There's also a previous /. discussion on asset tracking stuff although perhaps a bit outdated now.. http://slashdot.org/story/06/08/20/0214256/it-asset-tracking-and-helpdesk-software
