I dont follow that. It is almost like you saying that all "good" traits would already be present, via evolution. Maybe the trait is advantageous but the body has just not gotten around to advancing itself to have that trait. Maybe it might naturally occur in 10,000 more years but we just sped up the eventual process by introducing it earlier.

or on a completely different tangent, maybe the trait (roundup resistance) just became advantageous because the plant has only been encountering the roundup spray for the last 20 generations or so... previously ( > 20 years ago) this trair would NOT have been advantageous (and so it would have gotten bred out) but now it IS advantageous, so it should be kept.

actually, at the 3 universities that I atteneded, there were 2 REQUIRED periods, thus, they were called "semesters".

The summer break was actually TWO seperate OPTIONAL periods that you could take 2 different classes (or sets of classes).

Therefore at those schools at least, the summer session did not equal a 3rd semester.

Even if the summer session was not optional and even if they combined the 2 fast sessions into one longer period, it was still significantly shorter than a normal semester (less than half).

    for example:

at North Carolina State University, where I got my MPA:

fall semester is from Aug. 20 to Dec. 5
spring semester is from Jan. 12 to Apr. 30
1st summer term is from May 24 to June 25
2nd summer term is from July 6 to Aug. 6

    1. Model Rocket tube w/ fins attached
    2. Threaded steel rod, 1 1/2" long
    3. Threaded hose fitting (female)
    4. Electrical tape
    5. Glue
    6. 12-gauge shotgun shell (optional)

Not that anyone should ever construct this, but if one were to imagine building such a nefarious device, here's how one might do so.

Go to the hobby store and purchase a model rocket tube with the fins already attached (get the biggest fins possible!).

Take the tube to the hardware store and find a threaded steel rod (around a foot-and-a-half long) that fits snugly inside, with about four inches sticking out of the rear (that's the hand-hold).

To weight the dart in front, use a threaded hose fitting, screwing it down until there are roughly four inches exposed.

Now, this is already a deadly weapon. But just in case one is imagining something deadlier.

    Get a 12-gauge shotgun shell.

Unfold the end, and dump out the buckshot, and as much gunpowder as you feel comfortable with.

Slip the empty shell onto the nose of your dart (the primer, or explosive metal part is on the tip), and tape it down tight.

Move your target from the yard to the cement driveway, throw your dart, and run like hell in the opposite direction.

Wait for explosion. Keep lawyer's name on speed dial.
