Personally, that's the way I like it. Show me how to perform each basic move and allow me to explore and experiment to use those basic moves in a way to defeat difficult bosses or find collector items.

It's one thing if you really get "stuck"...especially early in the game. But it's totally fine to me if many of the optional aspects of the game require quite a bit of thinking and experimenting. You can't really even get stuck in the game because you can always have that white gorilla walk you through hard parts if it really comes down to it.

Well, he mentioned game titles so I'm guessing that he bought the PS3 when there were a few games he found interesting in hopes that the numbers would grow. Apparently the list of interesting game titles didn't grow fast enough. Had this and other good games been released 18 months ago (or ideally, sooner) his interest in the PS3 might have been sustained. I couldn't see anything in his comment that indicated that this one game was all he was interested in. Instead it sounded to me like he was just saying this game was too little too late.

Also, a person who sees a thermostat upon entering a room for a meeting will feel like a jerk calling to fix the temperature if he hasn't at least tried the thermostat first. When he attempts to adjust the thermostat there's a delay before even considering to call. Perhaps it just takes a bit to warm up (I've even seen some that make a hiss when you adjust it past the current temperature but still do not impact the temperature) so people end up waiting to see. By the time they realize the thermostat is definitely not working the meeting is 2/3 done and they don't want to bother calling to get it fixed for the next guy. That might be laziness or selfishness but it's not placebo effect.

No. Preventing antisocial behavior is not the only reason parents make efforts to keep their young kids away from "adult" movies and games.

Personally, I'd like to have an idea of whether a game is going to give my young daughter nightmares, for instance. There's quite a few movies, books, and games that I look forward to introducing my kids to when they get older but I know they aren't ready for them yet. I know they aren't ready for them because I read the book, watched the movie, or played the game already. It's nice to have an idea just how realistically violent a game is before I let my kids play it...even though I have doubts that playing the game has any strong direct link to violent behavior among kids.

Certainly too much tv (or anything) can be bad for a kid. But even with things like books, kids love repetition. It's how they learn. And it's not poor parenting to let your kids make choices in their lives...even if it is to read or watch something again for the 10th time in a row. Sure, they need to be exposed to a variety of things, but having a favorite they watch/read a lot does not preclude that.

  18. How I'd get people to sign up for it on HP and Yahoo To Spam Your Printer · · Score: 1

Here's how I would make it stick if I were HP (assuming the costs worked out in HP's favor):

    -Print one ad per day
-Targeted as much as possible (user can select interests upon signing up)
-Only accept humorous ads (this may be tricky as people's humor vary...but it's usually pretty obvious when something is at least meant to be funny
-At least once a week, one of the ads is a coupon (targeted if possible)
-Every X amount of time, those who've signed up receive a free ink cartridge in the mail
    -Have it be opt-in only

A decent number of people are only interested in the Superbowl because of the ads. A decent number of people sign up for joke of the day mailing lists. A decent number of people will put up with ads for coupons. A decent number of people will put up with ads for free stuff.

Depending of frequency of the free ink cartridges, I might sign up for that.

I'm often talking on the phone while looking at something else, working on something else, reading, attending to my kids, heck, even going to the bathroom if I'm really feeling the urge and think I can get away with it. People will feel guiltier if their friends can see you're not giving them you're undivided attention.

With a computer, it's not QUITE as noticeable if you're also surfing while chatting (though you CAN still tell if you pay attention or if you're noisily typing away) but it's still a bit of a problem.
