no risk to me eh? how how about you get your fingers out of my wallet before you say that.

Space exploration and the building of viable human habitats should be undertaken by robots. There's no point in spending a whole lot of extra money in carrying energy poor foods up into space to power human operators while construction is being undertaken.

Once everything is done send in the scientists.

Glockenspieler, you should concede that you are a moron, since your university degree has not helped you create a valid example or analogy. In this case your analogy and pompous retort at the end of your first comment was nothing more than a straw man argument and an attempt to defame the original parent poster.

I am referring to this comment
"Finally, I recommend avoiding statements like "Everybody knows..." Its usually a clear sign that what ever is coming next is vastly oversimplified, self-righteous, or just plain ignorant."

Every aspect of human activity is corrupt because of such intellectual dishonesty, as a professor you should be ashamed that you sink to these levels to win an argument and are also educating our youth to use such tactics.

  6. just a thought on Game Developers Fear Hollywood-ization of Gaming · · Score: 3, Insightful

I think the reason most forms of entertainment are becoming so passe is because it's no longer targeted at only rich or the geeky. Once entertainment is generated for the unwashed masses of proles it starts becoming stupid and tedious waste of time in the same way high school was stupid and tedious waste of time for most of us. The alternative is to start something else and draw enjoyment from it until the rest catch on and come in to ruin it for us again.

To sound like a respectable pundit one must always include a blurb about the differences between hackers and crackers. As for the review and the book they are omens just like those first html, A+ and MCSE books. Game development is becoming sufficiently saturated as to require the sale of skills in other venues like this one.

I for one have left the computer science field for computer architecture.

This looks like a decision passed to kowtow to the region bells who think they're unfairly harassed by providing 911 services.

With wifi, ssh tunnels and unspecified internal deployment of handsets in a corporation it's ridiculous to expect vonage et al to provide 911 services comparable to the regional bell.

I fully expect 911 calls to end up getting into a frenzy for an incident that is eventually located in bombay.

  19. Nothing new here on Interest in CS as a Major Drops · · Score: 1

You do realize there is nothing new here right? About the time any profession becomes unprofitable due to market saturation, trade schools start promoting the entry of lower castes into the ranks as the next major milestone in human development, who they seem to assume would be all too happy to get into debt to move "up" in the social ladder. This sort of thing is always promoted in the following order: foreign men, women, blacks, hispanics then gays. This trend is fairly evident in the military, in support roles in business, people are pressing for it in religious communities, who knows maybe the trend will start showing up with the CEO's and politicians.

As far as I'm concerned this is just business as usual in the USofA.

  22. Web Ads are different on Does Adblock Violate A Social Contract? · · Score: 1

Web ads are completely different from normal television advertising. A Web ad has to be specially downloaded as per the instructions in the html file which for some may cost more money to download. There is no obligation on my part to protect the site's advertising revenue by taking an extra step to download their ads for viewing especially when I have not signed any such contract and any ads that i kindly download to help their revenue misbehave and annoy the crap out of me. This is equivalent to saying that I HAVE to sit and watch pbs donation marathons. For profit TV and radio ads are included inline as part of the show. Online advertisers should feel free to include text ads within the body of the article text or buy the reviewer into producing fluff pieces for the company's products.

Of course as the integrity of a sites content diminishes the number of page views may decrease and advertising may become unprofitable, and both users and advertisers may have to quickly move to sell their wares through yet another site.

The advertisers are upset because such decentralization adversely affects their bottom line.

In the absence of a usage contract such bellyaching is childish and should be ignored.

I can't believe the RIAA/MPAA powerblock are crying foul over downloading their movies while adservers are crying foul over NOT downloading their ads. What a world!
