Speaking as a non-whippersnapper (27 years old), I think nostalgia is going to be a real problem soon. As we start changing what it means to be human with artificial ears and eyes that can plug directly into machines, we can't keep clinging to the past. My eyes are looking firmly forward to the future, even though I did enjoy many of these classic games.
Well the knee-jerk reaction doesn't help any. Apparently this is a radio only--so radio stations don't need to worry about someone drowning out their commercial drivel. It won't be banned as a terrorist tool, but it might be banned for pulling inane music videos off the airwaves without proper payment.

If we can tell people the truth about Santa Claus, they can be more immune to all the pseudoscience out there. It's not a big leap from that to astrology, or creationism. In a world where "martyrs" cause havoc in hope of reaching "heaven", what we need is stark reality.
I don't understand how pro-future and pro-technology people can have this knee-jerk reaction to RFID. Another example is the Intel processor serial number circa Pentium III. This could have been a really useful tool, but it was sunk by "privacy" types.
One group fighting music IP is called the downhill battle. All this pessimism can really get to you until you realize that these laws will ultimately fail. It's like trying to stop a waterfall. Check out infoanarchy.org for a view on how things will really turn out.
And cynics are, as a group, highly redundant and unoriginal.
There have been lots of these types of proposals. There was one on slashdot that let someone in the front direct a whole train of cars. Not a new idea, but a good one. I still wonder if we'll reach the singularity first before anything like this takes off. Post-singularity, all bets are off as we'll be in space as a cyberthalamus.
I wouldn't want it to be able to access the store. I don't want bugs to end up charging my credit card. ITunes is already a killer (free) app with apple lossless (yes even on the windows version).
I never got used to having to put in the CD just to play a game. What about newer laptops without CD drives? Yeah, yeah "information wants to be free", but not having to leave the house and not needing a CD are good things (tm).
There are much larger issues at hand than the environment. If we engineer a machine that can hold sentience--other issues fall away dramatically. A robust cyberthalamus would perhaps decide to just toss Earth into the sun and live in space. The obstacles to this are Bush's religious policies on stem cells, and perhaps worse environmental types who disrupt studies on non-human primates.
The time frames of the singularity mean that global warming shouldn't be too much a problem. Harassment by unemployed people may be worse.
Realize that the other animals already use all the other forms of energy. Birds use the wind, fish use hydroelectric, and all use hydrocarbons as food. Nuclear is a step forward, which only the sun has mastered. The symbolic value of our progress needs to be considered.
We hear a lot about speed and capacity, but what about errors? I've stayed away from DVD+-/?!@#RW because of the chance of not having a player read a disc (or worse perhaps it reading it wrong).
What's with the nerd pessemism? Losing a loved one is sad. A file format not gaining ground is not sad. All I want is a lossless encoded file, and Apple's does work (yes so does FLAC).
When we take our last breath and live on as a computer, I think we can see something really fucking big has changed.
Correct, I remember beating pitfall 2: the lost cavern on the 2600 (still remember the damn music).

It's a fine compromise. Put in firefox, openoffice, audacity (sound editor), gimp, latest Java. That's what I got on my (yes, Windows) box.

There's real information here. Be sure to check out all the stories, not just front-page.
We on slashdot are less gullible than most (also, not coincidentally a lot more atheistic). But we have to wade through the crap.
Well maybe they don't want that. A more advanced life form (cyberthalamus) would just want to kick the Earth into the sun.

It's so predictable. Just make a Wired section already. New Scientist is better anyway.
Hosted on a computer, it would be much safer to see it in "person"! Plus, there would be no concievable danger.
But we'll see. Maybe they should name it MP3V for instant recognition. As another post said, we may be acronym tired so it could go the other way.
There's a whole bunch of physical holders, wallets and jewel cases and the like. But would be a good idea anyway.
SACD uses single-bit encoding, and DVDA multiple-bit--even though both can go multichannel. They are truly interesting as separate recordings.

Intro to genetics. Remember splicing can create a lot more variation (and headache if you're trying to understand it).
