    Extremely unlikely that something of this scale and magnitude could've been done without inside help. This is not like the guys who put a card skimmer on the gas pump at the corner gas station.

    IT admins at Target are probably getting grilled by FBI as we speak.

    I've had allergies all my life, dust and pollen. My mother HATED animals and we never had any pets.

    Flash forward 20 years -- I get a dog, a little Chihuahua that lives inside my house. I'm sure his hair and dander is all over the place and I breathe it in every day. And.... my allergies are MUCH better now! I can actually breathe with both nostrils, which I never could do most of my life due to sinuses being swollen.

    Not like those corporation give a rat's ass about the constitution or citizen liberties. They're only there because, like Marissa said, all those foreign countries getting suspicious of NSA might require them (the corporations) to build datacenter in every country they operate, and that's gonna be very costly to them.

    Wait, so if you have a million dollars worth of bitcoin you are not rich because yo have not converted it to another currency?

    Not rich, since you haven't cashed out yet. Your bitcoins could be worthless next month. Better sell now.

    If you have $1 million worth of gold that you have not sold are you similarly not rich?

    You are rich, since gold has never been worthless in the history of human civilization.

    If you have $1 million worth of stocks that you have not sold are you similarly not rich?

    Depends on the stock. Is it a solid company with zero chance of bankruptcy in the foreseeable future, such as Apple or Google? Or is it an Enron?

    Forcing CS down on everyone's throat would be like forcing calculus. Some can take it and some can't.

    I'd guess that about half the population (IQ below 100) will never get programming no matter how hard you try to teach them.

    But if a kid can pass algebra and geometry, they can probably learn some BASIC.

    The ones that can't hack algebra, teach them Excel or data entry so the school board can be proud of leading the high tech education future or something along those lines.

    Yeah that's probably it.

    To clarify further, they don't want you because you're in all likelyhood a Republican or libertarian or some sort of a conservative-leaning person. Lots of people are fleeing from California these days, but they're mostly right-leaning people fed up with liberal gov't policies of high taxes, high regulation, high debt, etc. We have awesome weather here, great ethnic cuisine, multicultural diversity, surf and ski on the same day. Nobody in their right mind would leave here unless they disagreed with the politics, it's a liberal's paradise.

    Because doing X is always cooler than doing a simulation of X.

    And also the delta-v required for moon landing is not all that much more than placing something in a long-term orbit. Especially if you consider the additional energy requirements for launching and maintaining a centrifuge.

    Why is this modded -1 Troll? Parent is correct; in the U.S. (and I assume most other developed nations), close to 100% of plastic waste either go into a landfill or is recycled. Amount dumped into the ocean is negligible.

    that existing space providers are in big trouble.

    Even the Chinese are quaking in their boots, as they can't do it as cheaply as SpaceX. And EADS is frantically redesigning their new Ariane 6 to try to be more cost competitive with the Falcon.

    SpaceX has completely rocked the space industry upside down, and A LOT of naysayers need to eat crow now. As recently as 2012 (see this article), managers at NASA were poo-pooing Elon saying rockets are hard and noobs shouldn't try.
