Just for failing to see my humor I shall counter your meaningless reference with another meaningless reference. From the great and un-erring Wikipedia!
A cyborg, short for "cybernetic organism", is a being with both organic and mechanical parts.
I feel the same way as far as not liking to do any "real" work on a tablet such as word processing, long e-mails, etc. However, I've been noticing more of my co-workers and other folks lately on their PCs and realizing that they are as slow on a regular keyboard as they are on a tablet when it comes to typing. So, this may actually be a non-issue for a larger portion of the population than I originally thought. Kids are coming out of school with good mouse skills but still having lousy typing skills (at least around here that I have noticed)
It's still done that way in my neighborhood. But the schools found a solution. They stopped using textbooks. You think I kid. Sadly, it's true. The administration just tells the teachers to find worksheets online and print them off. The kids just ignore the "Do not make copies" at the bottom of the pages of their handouts.:P
While I agree that would be a nice feature, I find handling the encryption myself painless enough. There are many tools to do it but I find Axcrypt integrates quite nicely for Win/Linux systems but not Android yet.
I use LP too, though I have to confess that I don't make full use of their password generation feature. I haven't tried the mobile apps - do those make it easy to log into sites from your phone?
Yes..
What about when you're at a different computer (not your own) - you simply use the mobile app to retrieve your password?
... and yes (if by mobile app you mean log on to the web site). You could, of course, also have a mobile version of Firefox with Lastpass so there is no danger of keylogging your Lastpass sign-in.
researchers say they’ve built “a prototype for automatically generating and distributing believable misinformation
That sounds like an automated version of dreaming up gloom doom death scenarios, but it's not to say it was a joke. For one, the person who leaked it would be identified. For two, if someone leaks real information there is nothing stopping the government from claiming it was "believable misinformation".
... than the Slashdot effect. Putting up a direct link to ZIP file on a blog and then getting the article on Slashdot is certainly a good way to melt the servers. Hopefully someone will get a torrent up for it soon so the hundreds of folks trying to download it don't trash the server (and take several days doing it since it's a 300+MB file).
"While a completed (privacy impact assessment) is not a requirement that prevents the CBSA from continuing with AV monitoring and recording, it will provide us with additional information concerning how we can strengthen current practices and continue to evolve our operations," Nadon said.
Nope, it's install and use regardless of the report...
Personally I want to know how they managed to get through the school system before the age of 18. The system which seems designed more to keep young people off the streets than it is to educate them.
That's correct. Sorry I wasn't more clear causing some confusion. As I re-read the original post I think I misunderstood what they were implying as well. But, you can't blame folks for getting a bit confused when talking taxes.:P
Nope, I'm a Canadian who moved to the US. I had to do dual income taxes the first year because I spent a partial year in both countries. After that, it was only US taxes. If I were to actually make income in Canada then it would be a different story, I believe, but I can make as much as I want in the US and not pay income tax to Canada.
I'm not sure what you mean by "found out". I have always been very clear with them about it and they fully understand it because I don't give them access to the computer until I know they can. As far as controlling goes, yes, I absolutely put limits on their actions and interactions. They children, not little adults. When they show good judgement I give them more freedom, when they show poor judgement I give them less freedom.
But I suspect you and I look at child rearing very differently and that's fine. I also see that you result to name-calling when you disagree with someone, and that's fine too.
Actually, it looks like it has been accomplished in some real-world testing already by the Chinese. However, it does seem odd to me that a high school student could have access to the kind of equipment necessary to prove such theories. Perhaps it's a theory that's been around for a bit but only became field proven recently. Still, it then makes me wonder about a previous comment about the students stealing PhD thesis and using it as their own project.
Next time you look at a CD check out the spindle hole. Around the edge on one side it is raised. It's hard to see but you can feel it. The raised ridge always goes down.
For what it's worth, with my family I combine educaiton with tracking so that I can best help my children understand what they are doing. They are young and have a tendency of making bad choices (like most of us). So, I use PyKeyLogger from Sourceforge on my machines .
My children know that if they make a mistake they just have to be honest about it and let me know and there's no problem. If they try to do something they know they aren't allowed to do and I see it in the logs then they lose privileges for awhile. This way I can help them learn and give them the freedom to make some of those mistakes and then explain why it's bad to try to purchase products with fake credit card numbers online (no, seriously, one tried). It's fairly simple to install on any system and it can be as obtrusive or unobtrusive as you want. Obviously, this will only work with PCs (Windows and Linux). As for the iPhones, you're out of luck. My children don't have cell phones and if I need to spy on my wife it's probably divorce time. My daughter has an iPod Touch and there are parental controls to lock it down to disallow messaging, texting, installing apps, etc without a password. I install apps that are acceptable at her request.
Like everyone else has said, this really should be done in an open and honest forum. If it's his children, he can tell them and they have no say. If the concern is his wife he's on VERY shaky legal grounds if he does any of this without informing her. This setup is designed to catch mistakes and be used for training children, not to outright control and not to surreptitiously spy.
Check out the laws section of their FAQ... Laws. So, there will be American Common Law in place. They aren't claiming to be their own country. Actually, it looks like they are primarily saying "We're Googleplex on water. It's cool!". Whether or not that's enough incentive to actually move your living and working quarters there is another matter. It also appears to me that International laws will apply so folks hoping to run illicit activities from there may still find themselves in hot water. I don't think they are trying to get around laws, just provide a cool place to set up shop that would certainly have "fewer" laws.

Take that!
You keep using that word (cyborg). I do not think it means what you think it means... :P

I am very disappointed there were no pictures or video of said "catnado". :P

Thanks for sharing! That's some nice cycle hacking there!
Very cool! I don't suppose there's a picture of your setup available somewhere?
WALL-Es girlfriend, of course. :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JVw8eofx8Q

They home schooled.

You're right, your description is clearer. Thanks for the clarification.

I knew Anonymous had to be behind this! ;)
