Doesn't the new Zen vision M looks like a rip off of the iPod ? How can they patent the interface they copied from Apple? I mean just look at this picture.
If you read TFA, it's not making coloured bubles that's hard, it's making the colour diappear that's hard.
His first coloured bubbles stained clothes, people, pets and everything else, and horrified parents even though the dyes were washable. It took him another nine years to come up with bubbles with disappearing colour which will have implication on a lot of other fields beside toys. Security for example.
I think the record company is just trying to raise price of downloaded songs overall. First they will say flexible pricing and raise price on most of the popular songs, while lower price on a small number of unpopular ones. Then a few months later, all the cheap ones will go back to 99 cents with most songs sell for higher.
Higher standard as in better accesiblity for more people, pretty simple to understand in this context. Before you ask how that can be measure, consumer testing, you get the actual users to use the different products and ask them.
"Meanwhile, in the real world the "higher standards" dependend on both personal preference and problem domain. "
Accessibility is not an exact science. But like other things such as art & music, you can still compare and measure 'in the real world'. More accessible for more people seems pretty easy to understand in this context. Again, that can be measured.
"Care to back this up?"
fine, to use a simple example from my engineering design class, car manufactuers design a standard sedan driver seat to fit driver 6'1" or shorter because it covers 95% of people. It's not profitable for them to design more than that. If you are taller than that, it may be uncomfortable for you. So you have to buy a bigger more expensive car, or a better seat.
"People on here seem to think that by adding the word "open source" to something it will automagically be able to singlehandedly cure cancer, solve world hunger, and make Julian fries. It doesn't always work like that.
so where did I claim anything remotely close to that in my comment?:)
"So what was your point again?"
I am pointing out that open source has a lot of potential to grow and just because the accessiblity of open source software isn't as good as Windows at the moment doesn't mean they should be ruled out. Maybe you should calm down and take the time to understand my comment.
What is it with these vacuous fanboy comments on slashdot anyway?
please, take you self-righteousness and anger elsewhere. Do your own thinking for a bit.
on the other hand, open source means anyone (with the skills) can take matters in to their own hands and address these issues to a higher standard than a commercial product, eventually.
Where as in a big profit motivated company may not want to spend time and money to go beyond covering the majority.
Well, isn't there a metal heatsink covering the CPU? The tiny amount of microwave radiation would be absorbed by the metal heatsink unless I am missing something here.
Just build the mp3 player without any storage capacity. User will have to buy their own SD card. Hard drive based players like iPod would be disadvantaged though. I hope Apple gets on this case.
I wonder if this tax will be extended to PDA and pocket pc's as well since a lot of people use those for mp3 playing.
Anyways, this just give me another reason to dislike the Dutch. j/k
VC usually only care about maximize return on their investment in a short time. As a result, they take approach that's actually bad for the long term growth for business.
According to the former chairman of ArsDigita, VC basically pushed him out and run the business with their own man as CEO and killed ArsDigita. At first I was surprised by this but it seems that's the way VC operates.
very interesting read. Also I agree $750 mil is peanuts for VC. Greylock and Partners (mentiion in the ArsDigita story) alone manages over $2.2 billion in investments. That's just one investment company.
Yeah, I am on to you. Trying to get us confess about all those things. We are smart enough to realize doing things like you described would be illegal and cause for dismissal, you know.
Now some of you may call BS, but a couple of years ago I was working for a contractor to Vodafone (world's biggest cellphone company? owns Verizon).
I was visiting different offices in England setting up security and building communications. At some certain offices, I always get a bad headache after working for a day. At other offices, I have no problem. This went on for a while before I found out the ones I had headaches were the one that had cell towers.
Hmm... should I read every EULA for every piece of software I ever get in case I can win $1000? No way, not worth my time. I bet this guy doesn't buy that much software.
>These shots -- especially the space battle scenes -- certainly make it look more worthwhile than the two prior episodes.
Yah, I agree, it's the poor space battles that made the last two episodes so bad. Nothing to do with the bad acting, bad directing, lame dialogs and childish plots.
Remember people, as the illustration says, Soldier not included.
Yeah, I know that sucks. I want to buy one with the soldier too. Maybe the next version.
Instead of building a database for this, how about just get a big binder/folder and sections for different job positions?
That is unless you have 200 positions you are applying for. In which case, there is something wrong with your method. It's better to focus on a few good jobs than to go apply for everything and anything.
So I am not interested in ATI's offering after having trouble with their drivers before. Anyone know if nvidia's equivalent to this is any good?
Flash drives have read and write limits. They are not meant to be constantly accessed like hard drives.
They are building it to sell to NASA or space tourism agencies. They are not launching it. Someone else is.

Read between the lines.
I would love to know what products the hotel is using. I would like to automate my home.

Can't a Mac Mini be used for this? with a few external HD on firewire?
kewl, now I can pack it in the back, cruise down the street and really rice it up.
Anyoneelse heard the story about a woman suing the Wachowski brothers saying they ripped of her story for the first Matrix movie?

I could swear some of them are of opposite directions in the bottom picture.

you may want to consider the thumb drive as a transport not a backup from now on. I killed a few drives myself.

What if he grant application was reviewed by a program instead of a real person? I wonder how he would like it
