You sure have bad luck with drives. Even in the late 80's, when capacity was measured in the tens of megs, I didn't have this kind of problem. Sure, drives died after a year or three, but that was when this was a frontier technology.

But as for warantees - they are a joke unless you are a mass buyer.

Really, what happens when the sun dies out? Or the earth's core cools off resulting in no magnetic field which will lead to the atmosphere evaporating into space?

Not sure about the accuracy of the second part of your statement. However, it is not going to happen for hundreds of millions or even billions of years. We can't even make policy based on things we know will help us in twenty years, much less worry about millions of years.

Bzzzt. False. If this were true, 1/3 of all the messages on Slashdot would have to be modded to negative one. Simple fact: it got modded down because Slashdot has this "we will eventuall colonize the galaxy religous belief". Go against the Slashdot religion, get modded down. It is the equivilent of the inquisition, but with folks too cowardly to actually go and physically confront someone.

Look at it this way: hackers hack. That is what they do. Sure, there may be a different way of accomplishing the same thing. But hackers love to find a different way of doing something just to prove they can. No need for a big conspiracy and trilateral commission.

Ahhh yes, the conspiracy theory. You don't offer any counter example. You don't counter the points made in the article. You just yell 'bullshit'. Great argument.

I, for one, have a better explanation. People are dumb. That's the way Bush got elected last time. I will be honest enough to say I voted for Bush in 2000. But I am, at least, smart enough to admit my mistakes. People got their little payouts in the mail. Bush shored up his base. The folks ignored the two trillion of debt he has piled on us, and the quagmires he lied his way into.

No... I do not buy into the conspiracy theory. You don't need to rig elections except through breasd and circuses.
