If you install the Google toolbar, you get a history of your searches.. The box that you enter the search terms is a dropdown that you can also use to pick the previous searches.
I actually like the Google toolbar a lot. You can quickly get to the various Google pages (web/image/groups/news), see pagerank for the page you are currently viewing, get backlinks and other info, and do translation. Yet another example of something done right by the Google engineers.
I am a musician who records a lot of live performances, and I just bought a Creative Nomad Jukebox 3.. I'm really happy with it.. For about $375 you get a 40 GB hard drive, and it can record to WAV or several different MP3 formats via the analog or optical line in..
I tried the Sony Minidisc recorder, but was disappointed by the built-in DRM (you can't copy your own recordings to a PC digitally, because it doesn't think you have rights to them)..
I would consider it more "Informative" than "Insitghtful" but, that's just me..
The reason so many people ask about Ogg Vorbis is because they are actually interested in supporting the format..
If there were some feature missing from a product that you were interested in, don't you think that posting a message about it in a public forum would be a good way to raise awareness of that feature?... Also note that when you follow a link to the story, there is a section there for posting comments too.. And the first comment that you see, is "Does it support ogg?"... Probably a slashdotter that followed the link, but still.. People are trying to get the word out, not troll..
Personally, I agree with the poster, and many other posters, in saying that I won't be buying a player until someone comes out with one that supports Ogg... It's simply a better format...
In comparison, I think that buying a device without Ogg support would be like buying a really fancy cassette player.. Just like CDs sound better than casettes, Oggs sound better than MP3s.. I'm not just making that statement based on what I've read elsewhere.. I have actually taken several songs and encoded them both ways, at various bitrates to compare for myself..
Actually I think Microsoft is a member now, announced just a few weeks ago at SIGGRAPH.. I wouldn't trust the info on the web3d.org website, it's always out of date..
(you would think that the Web3D Consortium would have a better website, huh?):)
This article on TreoCentral is even more interesting.. They did a review with pictures of the Treo 300.. That's the Sprint CDMA Model.. Wish they had some more info on when it will be available, since this is the one that I'm waiting for..
Why the P2P trend lately?.. The technology isn't that great.. After this and the story the other day about P2P TV networks, I'm really wondering why there is so much hype..
I know when I use Kazaa, i frequently get 0.5 Kb/s transmission speeds, and "Remotely Queued" or "More Sources Needed" messages.. Do people really want this to happen to their phone calls, TV programs, etc etc?.. P2P networks have a lot of overhead spent just to determine how to distribute nodes and route data -- I just don't see it being ready for any kind of realtime application...
I'm trying to understand what exactly this guy did... It looks like there are several nameservers for the.za domain.. So one of them must be a primary, and they do domain transfers for all the other ones listed here, right?.. Anyone know where all of these are located?

I dont understand how something can be licensed under both LGPL and GPL at the same time.. That seems like a contradiction.. Can someone explain it?.. TIA..
Since you can be awarded patents for software, that kind of puts it in a different category than art..
I'm not necessarily agreeing with the idea of software patents (actually I think most of them are just stupid).. But I'm just pointing out that programming is legally closer to inventing (as described in the article) than it is to art...
Tell that to Linus Torvalds, Larry Wall, Bram Moolenaar, etc etc... The role of the lone inventor is still very much alive when it comes to open source software...
Thank you, Haiku Troll! You make Slashdot worth reading.. Mod this parent up!

sun has really dropped the ball--intentionally--in developing the line. the market is there, but the product hasn't arrived
What are you talking about?.. Sun/Cobalt is still releasing new products, and supporting the existing Cobalt products pretty well.. I get notices that new security patches are available every month or so.. And recently Sun hired more people to answer questions on the online cobalt support forums..
I have nothing but good things to say about Cobalt machines.. For hosting a few low traffic sites, they are perfect, and one can pick up a Cobalt raq or qube used on eBay for only a few hundred bucks.. i have better things to do with my time than spend days configuring bind, sendmail, apache, kernel patches, php, mysql, etc etc..
yes, the US military can selectively jam GPS signals, or control the precision of the signals in certain geographic locations.. I actually worked on a project with the NAWC about 6 years ago to do this.. The jammers were small enough that they could fit in something about the size of a suitcase, and be dropped from a plane into enemy territory..
In fact, this article suggests that they're doing it now in Afghanistan:
Java is a C/C++ successor too, so saying that C# is a Java successor implies that..
CGI isnt a language! And thats a direct quote from him. What kind of idiot says "I can program in CGI."

Is it possible to trap helium inside of aerogel? If so, you could have a lighter than air solid. That would be very cool.
Wouldn't that just be a balloon?
Now the next step of the exercise, look up an address in it's address book, while maintaining the conversation with the client.
Just use a headset or earbud, or put the device into speakerphone mode.. I do this all the time with my Treo 300 and it's not hard..

MP3: 64, 96, 128, 160, 192, 256, 320 kbps
WAV: 11.025, 22.05, 44.1, 48 KHz
