I don't undertstand Sony asking customers to wait a week or two to see if the condition bothers them. Of course it's going to bother me, especially when my friend has a PSP without any problems.
The screen is defective now. Waiting a week isn't going to make it less defective in my eyes.
It's sad that basically these companies are trying to preserve their virtual monopolies on broadband service instead of attempting to work with communities to develop large scale community wide broad band solutions.
A company such as SBC should really be playing both sides here as they could still charge for a fat pipe to be run a town. The difference being that a municipality has the money to subsidize the pipe and basically sell the bandwith to residents at a loss. SBC makes it's money albeit slightly less than if they were to provide service to each household but money none the less.
We'll see what happens, but I'm seriously considering asking some of my neighbors to get together to lease a line from SBC and then set up a community router. It will save all of us money and I'll finally be able to get a decent connection without interference from the 8 other routers my laptop can connect to.
There's a good deal of internal reorganization going on at SBC. They're combining alot of their assets in Michigan and moving some to Illinois. Some of this accounted for the job loss.
When there's one football game, one baseball game, one hockey game simply because companies have exclusive rights to the NFL, MBL, and NHL and their respective entities.
I could care less about whether it's branded ESPN, but if EA signs a deal with the NFL and Madden's the only football game on the block I'm going to be pissed.
I wish I would have read this piece before starting college. I have to say I agree whole heartedly with the author. I was just offered two seperate positions not because of my programming skills but because of my ability to communicate to others.
If there is one thing I want to say to those looking to go into Computer Sciene or a related field it is learn to communicate! Learn to write, and write well! Learn to communicate effectively with other human beings! This may require social interaction that involves not being at a computer. Get out of your room, or parents basement, and talk to people! Go to parties and talk to girls, get over any notions of fear or doubt you have. Be confident. Strong communication skills will get you further than you think.
The hiring manager at the company I accepted the offer from said, "We chose you because you could talk to us. You didn't talk to us like a programmer, you talked to us like a human being."
It always amazed me that everything for the space shuttle was probably manufactured by the lowest bidder for the given project due to the red tape involved.
Common sense would suggest that going with the lowest bidder might not exactly yield the highest quality product. Could have the space shuttle been built "better" had we paid more for it?
This is a good idea, however I have a question.. if they find damage to the heat shield can they repair it during an EVA? Does anyone know if this would be incredibly difficult?
Most of the torrent sites I know of (not linking to any of them), simply list (publish) the address of the tracker or trackers, and anyone is free to upload a torrent to that tracker.
I don't see how this is any greyer than before, you still have a server that is simply hosting torrents, no copyrighted material is actually contained on the tracker.
I wouldn't so much say the the creators of torrents and tracker operators are collaborating. IANAL but I would image if any legal argument could be posed it would be that trackers facilitate the spread of copyrighted material. Which I would assume would hold up in court since a tracker facilitates file transfers in BT.
The MPAA are, and the police in this case were going after the sites that host.torrent files, and whatever edonkey/emule uses to initiate transfers. So as long as your son wasn't running an actual eDonkey server (he was just simply a peer) out of his dorm room you should be fine.
You'll want to ask him if he is or not, it's not that hard - I set up a BT tracker on my campus LAN, and restricted IP access to only those from campus. Result: Very fast, semi-trusted file sharing network.
I believe the reason for the decline is that most people used their Handhelds for those two functions (Address book and reminders). I think that's typical of most, and why have two devices when one will suffice. As far as taking notes, most people didn't like writing in graffiti. Now execs just want the most expensive cell phone on the planet.:)
Peronsally I have scheduling on my desktop at work, and don't put my full day into my phone. Just important meetings, and reminders like "Pick up flowers for girlfriend."
I always thought that the cool gadget that was my Palm was going to make me want to organize my life. It turns out that entropy is just too hard to fight.
One should also note that Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is notorious for not paying out much as they should for their slot machines. I wouldn't be suprised if they ask anyone trying to get a leg up to leave.
Even though they are fined by the feds for not paying out they just eat the fines and come out on top anyways.
I spent a part of my collegiate career at that casino since it was right down the road
Yes -- you were a cowboy time traveler, and Merlin was there. He used to keep telling me "Turn before you shoot!". Here's a PS2 version you can play at home with 3d glasses.
Thank you! The article clearly states that in theory the only way you'll die is death from stepping in front of car, putting the toaster to close to the edge of the tub, etc. The author estimates that if you're a risk conscious teen you have about a 1/1000 chance of dying before you turn 18. He goes on to say that means you have a 50/0 chance of making it to 1000, provided you don't misjudge the speed of an on coming car, or sky dive sans parachute.
I for one would love to live to be at least 100, but a 500 would be better. Imagine what video games will look like by then... I hope.
My grandparents prefer e-mail. Why? Because they have always enjoyed writing letters. It was the preferred method of correspondance to people who they couldn't otherwise call on the telephone. E-Mail for them is just a "new fangled" way of writing letters. If shown Instant Messaging they wouldn't use it as nifty as they think it might be, because it's a paradigm they don't neccesarily buy into.
I would imagine this would apply to many older people. Hell, I even enjoy the eloquence of well written letter.
Now of course I know correlation != causation but I had this thought.
I'd imagine a small percentage (say 10%) of iPod users probably bought the most expensive model at the time be it the large 40GB iPod or the new iPod Photo. Whereas most of us don't have the money to drop on the latest and greatest iPod this group could purchase 1 or more if they so desired.
As another post pointed out it's probably people in this group (fat wallets) who are making the switch. "I can afford the $500 dollar iPod might as well as get the computer that goes along with it". So there's your 6%.
Personally I'm too entrenched in my Windows box, and I can't afford an iPod let alone a whole computer from Apple. Anyone want to get me an early Christmas Gift? Heck a belated gift if it's an iPod:)
Well for my parents - bad phone lines and a rural location. We have a saturation of dial-up providers, one of which carries wireless at outrageous prices. Rather than pay 75 dollars a month for 128k wireless access, my father has decided that 28.8 will do, but he'd love broadband.
For my grandparents - old phone lines, they just got tone dialing a few years back when the phone company finally mandated them to do so. my grandfather isn't too keen on running new phone lines, but if cable internet came along he'd sign up since he's already got cable.
My parents live nearly 10 miles outside of town and my grand parents are about 5 miles out. Both far enough away that Charter won't run fiber out that far.
So actually there's alot stopping them. I think that the point is not that people aren't using broadband it's that broadband isn't even an option for some people.
I am in a similar situation. Graduated Dec. 03, in a temp job completely unrelated to my field. I've had a couple of call-backs and an interview but it seems that no one will hire a recent grad with little experience.
I have a pretty diverse skill set due to the fact that I did development work for my university throughout my entire collegiate career. However most employers could care less about that.
It does seem that there is a large pool of experienced techies out there, and companies would rather pay them the higher salary then wait for 2 weeks while I acclimate.
We have MISS DIG here in Michigan. They mark utility lines for free as long as you call in advance. I'm assuming they mark all your utility lines: sewer, electrical (if below ground), and telephone. It seems like other state's (regions) would have something similiar to DigSafe or Miss Dig, or is this just a case of bone head sub contractors?
It's not that easy. Well maybe it's easy for those of you without a girlfriend/wife/child.
My girlfriend (also a programmer/designer) just got a full time position with a large company which pays pretty well. I can't very well move her along with me now, as she shouldn't and wouldn't give up her job. Since we don't want to do extremely long distance I am stuck looking for work in a state whose technology sector revolves around the automotive industry.
Imagine relocating a family! Besides finding employment, kids are leaving friends, switching schools etc. The decision isn't that simple.
My bad, I wasn't specific enough, I should note that the post pertains to copyrighted material. Such as I just ripped "Family Guy" and I'm throwing it up on bittorrent

President Skroob: What's the combonation?
Col. Sandurz: 12345
President Skroob: That's amazing I have the same combonation on my luggage!
...his server's gonna be toast. Not even that many comments and it's starting to get really slow.

at least it's not 1.21 Gigawatts...

Really it's just business as usual
Could just be a cut scene, if it is real time then damn....
Madden 2007 perhaps (I can already pre-order 06)...

TFA links to a company (holophile) which has a decent history section, and decent about section. Not great, but not shabby.

Besides, what's so bad about dialup?
Nothing at all..
If they want high speed, what's stopping them?
