I don't give to the EFF simply because they have lost far more cases than they have one.
They may have a losing record but if not for them many cases would have never be heard at all. Industry and government would just carry on with no one pointing at thier dirty hands.
Perfect? Not even close, but it's the best I have seen so far.
I hope someone out of the reach of the **AA's can continue the work on this project. It would be a shame to see such a useful tool die because is scares some suits.
So does this mean I will finally be able to install an eval version of OS X on VMware and see if it will indeed do what I need before I buy one? If I could do that and the Mac lives up to the hype people tend to give it I would buy one.
Can we drop the SCO thing yet... This is like standing on the side lines watching someone get beat to death by an angry mob and cheering for more blood.
Was the position of the article that companies couldn't protect their copy rights? Or was it stating that crimializing some one, fining them 10's of 1000's for copying music was not in the public interest?
I assure you sir I would. I would go to VCR. If there were no longer movies available in this format I would resort to the web or do without. You may find it unlikely but you don't know me. My problem is not with DRM. Every DVD has DRM on it now. My problem is with intrusive DRM.
While I concur that this is a stupid plan, could you elaborate on the "treated like a thief" theme that I see so often on slashdot?
Sure, after purchasing a movie I would be requred to prove I own it again and again. They are assuming that I am going to steal it. It is not like locking a car or house. (BTW I rarely lock either, I love little towns)
They are restricting what I can do with a movie I have paid for. What if my kids want to watch it while I am at work. Their prints don't match so the DVD thinks they are thieves and wont play? What if I lend the movie to a neighbor? (that isn't illegal yet) He doesn't match must be a theif?
I for one would go back to a VCR before submitting to this. Simply insane to think that I need to be treated like a thief when BUYING something they think I may STEAL later. (making available)
Is it really the Federal Governments job to mandate technologies who's sole purpose is to restrict what I do with media in my home?
I hope this gets crushed. I hate the idea of the Fed's in my home dictating whe I can do with my stuff by means of Technology that I will simply have to work around which will probobly make me a criminal at that point.
So let me get this straight. You don't carry your drivers licence or any other ID when you travel now? I am sure the state patrol would disagree with you that that's okay.
Fact of the matter is in almost every state you can be jailed if you refuse to ID yourself to Law Enforcement until they can ascertain who you are. How is this different? It is just a standardization is it not?
If you would bother to read the article this is for those convicted of sex acts with 11 year olds and younger. I don't know about you but I have never meet an 11 year old that looked 18.
Some of the larger ISP's will block entire countries subnets from ever reaching your firewall/router. You just have to get past the support desk to an engineer. I used to consult for a company that had all non-North American subnets filtered by their ISP.
Not only did their Firewall logs quite down but the amount of Spam hitting their Exchange server dropped by a massive ammount.
I agree with you on your second point. The immigration system is broken. I understand you argument about how most don't commit crime but these people are cheated of the basic American experience by having to worry about being deported if they are in a fender bender. They are taken advantage by employers because the will not complain.
I don't however believe the answer is to legitimize illegal immigration buy giving drivers licenses, medicare cards, ect to illegals but rather to find a way to make them citizens.
That why I do, and encourage others to, donate to the EFF.

You make that sound like a bad thing?

What are you talking about? There are R rated movies on Netflix.
I am a Netflix die hard but I figured Wal Mart with all it's capital and brand recognition would crush Netflix.
Good turn of events.

Right or wrong that's what I meant.

This is nuts.
It's too bad that he couldn't find some one to help him. Shame to see good software die of frustration.

How depressing.
As far as I know they can't enforce the DMCA in India yet.
Maybe I am missing something. How will the Goverment track my Purchases? How will they track where I drive?
Please remove the tinfoil hat. Arguments like that detract from your point. (some of which I agree with)

Yes but your tech research would slow down due to cyberslacking.
You run into that little problem of usability when you do that.
