One of the things that has really gotten my goat with Vista is remote desktop...
The only versions (that you can buy) that include remote desktop (also known as terminal services) are Business and Ultimate. So, just for a single feature that I require I have to fork over a significantly larger sum than I did for XP Professional.
So, if I say wanted some of the features of the normal desktop versions of Vista then i'd have to get Ultimate. For the most part though I think I can do pretty much everything under the biz version with stuff like VLC, windows media encoder etc.
The class system mention is an understatement, the current caste system as it exists in India is coming under greater and greater strain.
Take for example the Dalits who're essentially a slave caste in all but name.
This is why a lot of Indians are in poverty, not because they won't help themselves or don't want help but because of extreme prejudice against them. There is a growing growing Christian and Buddhist movement in the country, of people who're throwing away the shackles of the caste Hindu Dalit system and converting. Sounds more like a problem with your system than winamp, i've got a dual core system here and I can't even remember the last time winamp crashed on me.
As to windows media player, I think on installation all it requires is you have the latest windows media codecs installed, not the player itself.

Trying to find reviews of stuff is a real pita on any search engine, you'll usually come up with "buy it for $$$" results. Even if you used all the necessary search filters in google like "-buy -purchase -stock" etc you'd still end up with annoying shop stuff.
I'm currently working on my own version that searches through review sites based on a whitelist approach of only approved sites here. If people want to give me some help on this i'd appreciate it, that way we can filter out all of the spam sites and focus instead on only the good stuff.
We have a design spec that we're meant to follow, either we do it in flash or we do it in HTML, CSS with a bit of Javascript and some alpha transparency PNG's.

I was faced with that exact conundrum a couple of years ago, either I can learn Flash and create a site that is unusable in text browsers, unusable to blind users, unusable to non windows and mac os users and an inability to copy text from the website etc. Or code it in HTML, CSS & Javascript (with a few alpha PNG's) which I already knew. Which the MAJORITY of web devs know.
I created it in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
That said the site which is still up works fine in IE 7 as well as 6, no need to tweak the JS for the alpha png stuff.
I can pretty much guarantee you that viruses will appear on Vista pretty damn quickly, never underestimate the stupidity of users.
Also, after trying the Vista betas the first thing I disabled every single time was UAC.. I strongly suspect a lot of people will do the same, just to get rid of the annoying UAC window popups for the most menial of things.
For example, just a couple of days ago one of my bosses at work brought his home machine in complaining that it wouldn't boot etc.
Turns out, even though AVG and Lavasofts Ad-Aware were installed they were still stupid (it was used by more than one person) enough to quite hapilly run/install any programs they downloaded from p2p, via emails etc. It had roughly 100 trojans/viruses (I kid you not) on it.
Are people like Dell, HP and so forth.
My next laptop purchase is going to be a Macbook early next year. The reason?
It can run Windows, that simple. There is software for windows that simply isn't available for OS X that I need. Conversely there is software on OS X that I need that I normally run under a VM with Linux. You could say Linux is a loser in this too.
But Microsoft having the beatdown on them? Nope, Apple see Windows as not going away anytime soon and frankly the majority of OS X users will use OS X the majority of the time. Apple are gaining pc users because of bootcamp.
I own a homebuilt pc and a Thinkpad, so i'm currently not a mac user and hadn't considered a Mac until the Macbook.

Considering you can buy 750GB hard drives now, achieving 3TB isn't that difficult.
For example, six 750GB hard drives in RAID-5 gives you roughly 3.5TB.
My Lian Li PC-V1000 plus case (my home pc) can internally mount six 3.5" HDD's (I currently have 2 in there). Whilst a 1TB fileserver (on the cheap) I built for work uses a PC-V2000 case and 7 hard drives.
Curiously enough i'm currently planning to build a new fileserver for work to achieve even larger storage capacity.
The big plan is to max out the PC-V2000 case and get 12 750GB drives in there (or even 1TB drives if they appear when it comes to buying the parts).

It's not that simple, this doesn't allow you to write native code for the machine. It runs in an abstraction virtual machine layer akin to Java.
Unfortunately because this whole XNA Express thing uses VB.NET or C# (it doesn't seem to specify in the article) any games written will take a performance hit over native code.
The thing about the PSP was that it's native code accessing the hardware, so you could exploit that. C#/VB.NET programs don't touch the hardware, so if they crash it's no big deal.
Because in the USA the big media companies own all the news organisations.
Over here in the UK the only channel i've seen question the recording industries actions has been the BBC, but that's because they're required to be neutral in such things and the fact they aren't owned by any big media companies helps.
