I use Gentoo and with a patch from Con Kolivas I have ALSA compiled into my kernel, works like a charm only took a few minutes in addition to the time it took to recompile the kernel.
I had a 4416S (I think it was) that would burn anything and was very reliable. I really liked that burner. Yamaha makes good CDRW drives it really is a shame.
I am a Gnome user and I do like Ximian Gnome but I hate waiting so long between releases. They seem to give it all a nice polish and some value added features but I'm usually several verions ahead of them by the time they release. So I would essentially be downgrading my desktop to use Ximian. I guess there just isn't a Ximian version for impatient people like me.
Exactly. One thing I don't understand is how is it that the US and allies can have any sort of weaponry or resource but any other country who does is labeled a "terrorist state" or part of some "axis of evil".
Isn't it all just propaganda to support this administrations "might makes right" approach to foreign policy. I say we have no business interfering in the affairs of another sovereign country unless we know they intend their power and resources for imperial use. As it stands right now the only country who does this is the US.
Even if we do know that a country intends to invade another country it should be up to the UN to decide their fate. We should not act unilaterally and we should not bully the UN but defer to their judgment. The only reason to maintain any WMD are for purposes of defense, ironically the most prevailing reason why you would need to maintain a stockpile of weapons now would be to defend your country against the threat of a US invasion.
In summary, who are we to tell other countries what weapons they may have and what resources they can develop?
All countries should be treated equally and bound by the same rules and laws. Just because we can bully other countries doesn't mean we should or that we are somehow morally superior.
Why would anyone trust a government which could do something as heinous as the Tuskegee experiments [everything2.com]?
This is one of the most annoying things about the propaganda spewed by our media and the Bush administration. I want someone to bring this up every time Bush says something about how Saddam poisoned his own people. He always says it in such a way as to point out the vileness of such an act in an effort to differentiate us from them.

In all my years reading/. I've never seen a more complete, succinct, and especially honest wrapup of current (politcally anyway) events. Now, if only our bought out, controlled by the right media would go away so this kind of truth could actually make it out to the masses.

AFAIK, this would allow me to either program my local channels or my Direct TV channels but not both.
Has anyone figured out a solution to this problem. The only thing I can think of is ditching the Direct TV and going all cable. I hate to do that though because I actually like my Direct TV (except when it's very cloudy or stormy)
Yes, but take a look at your system resources and see how much memory your trillian process is using, it's bloated. It would be better if they could modularize the program. For example: If you aren't using ICQ then why load the capability for it.
I'd also like to see an IM program that could throttle it's resource usage if you are not using it. IM is an application that can sometimes just sit idle for long periods of time. I say either make use of the program or let go of the resources until I need to use it.
I don't agree that this is fair. If I pay for a cable connection I'm not paying for 1/10th the bandwith only part time. I'm paying for 100% of the available bandwith of my line, 24/7. If I were to be continuously downloading, non-stop I would be well within my rights, after all that's why I'm paying them. If they are having trouble keeping up, that's their problem, I should not be punished simply for using what I'm paying for.
They should not sell bandwith on the assumption that I'll only use part of the available bandwith, they should not sell bandwith they cannot afford to lose either, but once they've made the agreement they should stick to it, as long as I'm paying my bill.
He obvioulsy needed to do more advertising, I would of bought one long ago if I'd known it existed. Still might if I get the chance. I don't see how this is any different than the gba lighting kit I've seen on/. before.
I have been saying the same thing for some time now. I know I would certainly buy OS X for x86 hardware. I don't like the mac hardware. I like to build my own boxes, Mac hardware is proprietary, overpriced and more about form than function. Having said this I do believe OS X to be the superior OS compared to Win XP.
Say some company does the right thing and refuses to comply to these government demands, won't they just pass a law making it mandatory for commercial virus detectors to ignore FBI originated viruses.
I don't see how we can win this battle, this is no longer the home of the free.
It actually could be an improvement. I'm very sick of the little battle between tyr (spelling?) and Dylan. I want them to be friends. I know some may think that would suck but sci-fi is all about an escape from reality, I guess their animosity is just a little to real for me.

Besides these days anyone can get nearly any music they want for free, this is leverage that we should use to remind them we do not HAVE to buy their music, they must make us want to.

There could be a "write your representative" application much like capwiz and there could also be pre-written letters and petitions available for a variety of relavant, current issues.

I use software called Top Secret Crypto which claims their "True One Time Pad" encryption system to be unbreakable in theory or in practice.
I guess I mostly trust the software but I will still aways be cautious of any encryption software.
