  1. Re:A review review: this review sucks on NY Times Review of PS3 · · Score: 1

His first specific criticism is that there's no cable to hook up a PS3 to an HD TV. This is simply incorrect. Sony includes a cable that works fine. It doesn't do HD, but it does hook up and let you use the system. This kind of untruth is to be expected from the NY Times, which is more about an agenda than about accurately describing the factual situation.

Actually, I'd say his first specific criticism is that it does not provide discernably better graphics. I'm not sure why you're talking about the NY Times as a whole here... I can only assume you are purposefully excercising a genetic fallacy.

The only thing he says about the games is that Resistence: FoM is fun and Blast Factor is "frantic".

Well, this is a review of the PS3 and not the PS3's games. I suppose he's just trying to mislead the reader and confuse them. After all, this is the NY Times we're talking about here.

There's a lot of "I like the Xbox360 better" in this review. Ok, great. Good luck with that. But this is supposed to be a PS3 review, not a console buying guide that compares the different features. Buy a 360 if you want one. I hear they're great. But "the PS3 is not an XBOX360" is not a valid criticism.

However, saying the PS3 does not deliver on goals set forth by Sony (read: fun interactive engaging gameplay. will blow competition out of the water etc etc) as well as a product put forth by Microsoft does, is a perfectly valid criticism.

There's a paragraph about televisions and walkmans. Does that tell you if the PS3 is fun?

No, it tells me that Sony has had success when it focuses on simplicity. It highlights his previous points about the lack of ease of use of the PS3. It is at this time that I would ask you if you have any type of journalistic credentials that would allow you to make an authoritative judgement as to the integrity of this piece. Notice that I said "would" I don't actually care one way or the other... because it certainly doesn't seem that you do. There are more important things here than the PS3 or your ability to judge an article objectively... namely, this is a NY Times article! Sweet Jesus somebody stop them! Those Freedom-Haters...

Well from how it was explained in the movie I think i cant take a shot at this.

The gas that was released into the atmosphere was supposed to surpress aggressive urges but was too effective. As a result all urges to do anything were suppressed (most likely because our urges to preform basic functions are driven by our darker reptilian/id/whatever part of the mind). Then one tenth of one percent of the population had an opposite reaction... They became hyper aggressive and thus all of those 'dark' (primitive) urges were magnified. Urge to reproduce, fight, indulge, etc. etc. I also suspect that the Reaver mothers would have primitive maternal instincts and would be fiercly protective of their young as most mammals are.

Thats how i see it! Hope it helps.

Science of Happiness is a paradox. Happiness is often defined as contentment, the end of a journey with a satisfactory outcome often inspires 'happiness' and thus i will answer with a pursuit of truth philosophy. From Pascal's Penses:
If we seek truth through reason we cannot avoid one of these three sects. You cannot be a sceptic or a Platonist without stifling nature, you cannot be a dogmatist without turning your back on reason. Nature confounds the sceptics and Platonists, and reason confounds the dogmatists. What then will become of you, man, seeking to discover your true condition through natural reason? You cannot avoid one of these three sects nor survive in any of them. Know then, proud man, what a paradox you are to yourself. Be humble, impotent reason! Be silent, feeble nature! Learn that man infinitely transcends man, hear from your master your true condition, which is unknown to you.
    Listen to God

Happiness itself is a philisophical question as to whether or not it exists/is attainable. I saw somebody post something about the 4 noble truth's, hey thats a good start. Pascal uses God but really you can use any silly old thing you decide to but faith in. Whether it be your friends and loved ones or a favorite toy or blanket. Perhaps expectations have gotten too high? Marketing is mostly to blame but not entirely. I pretty firmly beleive that anybody can be entertained by pretty much anything, however a current trend is to dislike theaters for whatever reason and to instead go with home theaters.

Like most trends it will probably come to an end without many people realizing it till long after. One day you'll see a movie that catches your eye and you decide to see it and you enjoy yourself. Next week you decide to go back to see another movie you've been "thinking about seeing" and pretty soon you go almost every week. There will be no noticeable increase in the quality of anything (as that would likely cost $$$) and you will make no conscious decision that you had gotten over your hatred of the Cinema.

Taking a couple classes outside your major to keep sane may keep you in college an extra year or more and from where a college freshman stands its hard to turn away from something once you see yourself putting 2+ years of your life into it. It becomes very hard to justify your decision something when something intangible (happiness/what you want) is weighed against something VERY quantifiable ($ per cred hour) that will essentially be wasted time (correct me if i'm wrong but Calc 3 doesnt have much application in fields outside of engineering) and thats just my freshman level math class! eng 1xx 2xx 3xx and all that are gone too... plus their labs.

The dream job opprotunities (see: Google) that you worked towards are gone, the high wages and well... high wages... that you were promised are no more. Then you watch as the grace period runs out on your student loans... Then you are fucked... possibly for life... because some scruffy guy with suspenders, a beard and thick glasses said engineering was "The place to be!" Also, The water pressure that they are used to be subject to is much greater in the depths of the ocean (obviously) than at its surface.
