Darwin integrates a number of technologies, most importantly the Mach 3.0 kernel, operating system services based on 4.4 BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution, particularly FreeBSD)
It gives them a fuzzy feeling inside. But they don't realise that the fuzzy feeling is just an angry user with a machete in his hand standing behind them.
How am I overrated? No one ever even states my point. This is just anothe case of "Mod silencing" - mods modding down registered users simply because they disagree with them, so that the users will get bad karma and have low initial scores and are therefore silenced.
Grandparent is not talking about Apache or Samba or OpenSSH. Grandparent is talking about FreeBSD. OS X uses FreeBSD as the OS and puts Apple's GUI on top of it. And IIRC, it uses Mach, which is another software which can be called Open Source, as the kernel. And as the others have pointed out, what you say is exactly what grandparent said -- they don't have a version of iTunes for Linux because the marker share is small -- no money in it for them. Grandparent's point is that Apple has taken so much from the OSS community and hasn't even given back a version of iTunes. The market share or the money in it for Apple doesn't matter.
You could have left it alone. Or if you thought the joke was said too many times, you could have modded it overrated or redundant. I would have left it alone. So would have you, if it was AC. Mods usually mod down registered users more because they want burn the user's karma fastly and silence him by making all his posts have an initial score of 0 or -1.
If blocking VoIP is not part of the contract (EULA or whatever) that the customer signed, then the ISP is at fault. But if the ISP says it will block VoIP in the contract, then how can FCC stop it? Isn't it a little like blocking incoming connections on some ports (like 80)?
Grandparent is not telling you not to use VoIP. It's telling you to compress data and save bandwidth.
Conserving bandwidth is like conserving fuel - yes, you do have the right to take as much as you want from your seller, but conserving preserves the resource for all of us and it's a good idea. Otherwise it will be costly for all of us -- or at least someone else.
There's no need for *you* to compress anything since it's all part of the standard.
Those are hi-res images. The copyright holders might only have allowed them put low-res images on the web freely. Or maybe they're charging for the bandwith. Or one of the other million reasons. As a non-US citizen, I've seen USA as usually fair when it comes things like this - government istituions dealing with their copyrighted material. Well, at least fairer than some other countries, including mine (India).

So you're giving a grep command that will generate output to stderr and piping stdout to another grep command that will not accept any input, which completely doesn't make sense. Brilliant.
As a non-US citizen, I'm slightly happy to see that someone cares about keeping tabs on US activities. Especially military activities.

Social Engineering isn't another watered down buzzword. It's been in use for many years and when someone says it, it's actually related to hacking(cracking) and other 'malicious' activities.

No, gravity is the shuttle's biggest threat.

This is like a fat dude with a bucher's kife sneaking up on a sheep from the front. And hoping the sheep won't notice.
More important, suing such a big fucking company as IBM was a very bad business decicion (and an immoral one too).

Of course you exploit the democracy by casting your vote. In a good way. It's a good thing.
What sort of fucking moron writes something that preposterous.
On Slashdot even comments like this modded up when it's supporting Apple. I think that says something.

OK, WTF do all these clusterfuck jokes mean???
OMG, how is parent troll????
This point is rarely stated on slashdot. Never. How is it overrated?

So true.
OMG, *every* post criticising Apple is being modded down. Even when it's mild, like parent. WTF?!?
