  1. Power grab on Can Music Survive Inside the Big Box? · · Score: 1

The problem for the labels with this is that they no longer have any power in the relationship with their retailers. Since Wal-mart became the biggest music retailer, they have total control in the relationship. They only have music to drive people into the store anyway (notice how it's always placed near the expensive electronics?). If Wal-mart dropped their music retail, it wouldn't affect them one bit, but it would be disasterous for the record industry.

  2. Re:Why I dont vote on Voters Vote Yes, County Says No · · Score: 1

I understand why you think voting is irrelevant. But you can't become so cynical about democracy that you don't even try to change things. That's just apathy.

  3. Re:It's interesting. on Games That Advanced the Art of Storytelling · · Score: 1

Agreed. Xenogears is by far the most detailed and rich RPG I have ever played. I couldn't get into Xenosaga though, they had way too many cutscenes in the beginning.

  4. Re:Monkey cruelty? on Peter Gabriel Wants You to Re-Shock the Monkey · · Score: 0, Redundant

Have we ever really needed PETA?

  5. Change in attitude? on RIAA Drops Case In Chicago · · Score: 4, Interesting

When's the last time the RIAA sued a new batch of people? It seems like with all these setbacks that they might be slowing down the lawsuits.

  6. Ruckus on Students Skip College Music Services · · Score: 1

I use Ruckus, but during the school year when everyone uses it the website is terribly slow, and the actual program itself is buggy too with a bad UI. They need to realize that even if it's free, not many people want to use a flawed system. Fix that and then see if people like it more. Not to mention it's Windows only.

  7. Re:The law is the law on Domestic Spying Records Ordered Released · · Score: 1

Thank you. That's a concept lost on to many people today. The Bible is full of liberal ideals such as fightng poverty and protection for the weak over the powerful.

  11. Re:Mainstream spin on DVD Jon's Code In Sony Rootkit? · · Score: 1

Out here in Los Angeles, the only thing I've seen in the LA Times about it was a small AP blurb that spinned it exactly the way you're talking about. Not surprising given the music industry's power in this city.

  12. Apple employees say no on Apple iTunes to End Flat Fee Pricing? · · Score: 3, Funny

I was talking with a guy that works at the iTMS today and he said that there are no plans for that, and Steve's still strongly opposed.

  14. Good Ol' Grass on Will MacIntel Hardware Open The Door for Mac OS X CAD? · · Score: 2, Funny

I'm a big user of GIS, and while I find GRASS to be a wonderful alternative to ESRI products, it's sometimes too much hassle to fire up GRASS, define a region, import files, etc., if all I want to do is edit a shapefile or query a feature.

Well personally, I find grass to be a wonderful alternative to sobriety. It's never too much hassle for me to fire up grass.

  15. Earth 2 on Top 50 Science Fiction TV Shows · · Score: 1

Where's Earth 2?!? Shame it didn't last longer... This list needs some work.

  16. Re:Better Image on Google Forays into Print Advertising · · Score: 2, Insightful

It's just the same way people think of TV and radio stations as entertainment companies, rather than using the programming to gain advertising dollars.

  17. Seal? on Small Town USA Competing With India · · Score: 1
