While my first thought was Google should definitely and rightfully do that, I couldn't help wondering, if this were Microsoft, would we(i.e./.ters) have suggested and modded up to Insightful that Microsoft stop developing the French version of Windows, or hardcode IE to prevent access to any.fr domain? Or would we have all fired up on how evil the monopoly has become?
The whole point of the judgement is that Dior (or any other company) couldn't buy adwords on Google targetting the search term 'Louis Vutton' or vice versa.
And that's a valid point why? As long as Dior's ads would always be listed separately from the search results by 'LV', I don't see why it's a problem.
HP used to have this contract with Ford (leasing) and at the end of the lease the cars would be made available to employees to purchase at a dirt rate price.
Stop right there! You know you could get your friend's father fired for posting part of the HP benefit package on the Internet, don't you? Go home and feel guilty!
I hope you realize that there is some logical difference between "P2P != Illicit file-sharing" and "a large percentage of traffic thru P2P is illicit file-sharing".
And if *AA bashing makes you sleep better during those long innocent-file-sharing nights, go for it...
The whole article talks about sharing non-rival goods such as open source software and art works. I believe in this context the term "P2P" refers to the art works (or any other files) being shared through the "set of software".
With that being cleared up, if you truly believe most people are using P2P to share "most of pictures I took" or "the music I made", all I can say to you is -- wake up! 8-)
Whether I legally have the right to distribute a non-rival good has no bearing on the fact that I am able to share such an item at virtually no cost to myself.
I think the two bolded parts are contradictory, don't you?
I'm not sure presenting OSS and P2P in the same context of sharing is appropriate - sharing something you wrote yourself is one thing, sharing something some others wrote without those others' consent is another.
And before any of you H1B weenies come crawling out of the woodwork let me say this.....you know darn well that you've got a job that someone who's a citizen COULD DO, but wouldn't accept the MUCH LOWER THAN MARKET salary they offered YOU. That is the untold story that's missing from "Dude, who took my job?".
You do realize there is difference between "could do" and "could do well", don't you?
And why am I reading "much lower than what I could have asked for" from "much lower than market"?
But that wasn't the topic of your post. The topic of your post will be "this is going to make America look bad." You're perfectly and rightfully free to say whatever you want, but that doesn't mean you're not a complete and utter bastard.
Absolutely! The OP should have used a topic like "For all the 10s of 1000s of people died my condolence please. I also feel bad for those people wounded, all the property lost, and all the hardship required to rebuild. Furthermore I'd like to issue a carte blanche statement that I feel sad about anything happening in this world perceived as sad by anybody else. With all that being said, now I'd like to express a little concern over this making the US look bad".
Note that there is _huge_ difference between:
1. you hear about a civilization-ending event vs. you hear about a commercial airline crash, and
2. you get killed by a civilization-ending event (duh) vs. you get killed in a commercial airline crash.
People have been buying/selling Diablo II gears for real money. I don't see how this is _radically_ different from that. Comparing to some people who blew 260 billion _real_ dollars in a meaningless war that kills _real_ people, this guy sitting on his virtual island minding his own business may not seem that insane after all.
Sometimes it's just amazing how biased we can be.
And that's a valid point why? As long as Dior's ads would always be listed separately from the search results by 'LV', I don't see why it's a problem.
You sure ain't. I think SimFarm is yet another example on "a game with depth != painting things in 3D".

Well, since when did the SW series become thrillers?
I guess that leaves the door open for whatever the upcoming Lucas Arts games.
chances are the answer would be, "censorship? What censorship?"
trying to make it through the Turing Test for all we know.
The name of the new agency is Xinhua.
I supposed there will be some sort of two-phase commit involved in this in case anything goes wrong?
- once the new antibiotics is developed, make sure to have enough doses available.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is at least one Sim being named Neo...
But he didn't make it because Her Majesty found out Queen wasn't even a difficulty level in Civilization.
What about on a plane?

When is the Social Security projected to go broke?
Well We did - we were just _reloaded_.
Well _we_ wouldn't know if it has happened, would we?
